Transformation by Trigonometric Formulas

Some trigonometric integrals can not be evaluated directly from their given forms and
require transformation to the standard form by using appropriate trigonometric
identities. We shall classify the integrands of such trigonometric integrals as follows:
A. Product of Sine and Cosine
B. Product of Powers of Sine and Cosine
C. Product of Powers of Tangent and Secant
D. Product of Powers of Cotangent and Cosecant
Product of Sine and Cosine

Consider evaluating the integral of product of sine and cosine of the following
forms:
∫ sin 𝑢 cos 𝑣 𝑑𝑥
∫ cos 𝑢 cos 𝑣 𝑑𝑥
∫ sin 𝑢 sin 𝑣 𝑑𝑥
where 𝑢 and 𝑣 are differentiable functions of 𝑥 and 𝑢 ≠ 𝑣. The above integrals
can be evaluated with the aid of the following trigonometric formulas:
2 sin 𝑢 cos 𝑣 = sin 𝑢 + 𝑣 + sin 𝑢 − 𝑣
2 cos 𝑢 cos 𝑣 = cos 𝑢 + 𝑣 + cos 𝑢 − 𝑣
2 sin 𝑢 sin 𝑣 = cos 𝑢 − 𝑣 − cos 𝑢 + 𝑣

The technique involved in evaluating the integral of the form

∫ 𝑐𝑜𝑡 ' 𝑥 𝑐𝑠𝑐 ( 𝑥 𝑑𝑥
is similar to that of the powers of tangent and secant. Use the identity

2. ∫ 𝑠𝑖𝑛-2𝑥 𝑐𝑜𝑠!-2𝑥 𝑑𝑥 5. ∫ 𝑐𝑜𝑡 % 𝑥 𝑑𝑥

3. ∫ 𝑡𝑎𝑛-3𝑥 𝑑𝑥 6. ∫ 𝑐𝑜𝑡 -𝑥 𝑐𝑠𝑐 &𝑥 𝑑𝑥
