Summary of technology:

 TerraOrganic FFT&HEF is an innovative technology system for nutrient separation and recovery from
digestate manure and wastewater
 The TerraOrganic FFTis a solid liquid separation, based on a press screw and a (mechanical) micro filtration.
This allows the separation of a solids phase, a thickenedsludge and a liquid phase. The thickened sludge
containsup to 50% of the phosphates. The liquid phase, whichcontains main partof the N fraction, is
transported to theTerraOrganic HEF.
 The TerraOrganic HEF is a humidification/dehumidification system, combined with an Ammonia stripping. It
extracts 10 m³ of waterper day and recover all the Ammonia and Ammoniac by producing as a liquid fertilizer
ammonia sulphate solution (ASL). The system needs heat to operate.
 Main characteristics:
o Input material: digestate, manure, recyclatesfrom biogas plants
o Output 1&2 from FFT: solid phase as basic organic fertilizer, thickened sludge: P-Concentrate
o Output 3&4 from HEF: water and water vapor
o Output 5&6 from HEF: N-fertilizer (Ammonia sulphate solution),
Contact
which can also be used directly or as input concentrate for mixing with
the thickened sludge for a N,P-fertilizer or transferred to N-salt Name:Nicolas Heyn
o Needs heat of a biogas plant or similar Company:TerrawaterGmbH

Technology for N&P recovery as ammonia sulphate

ABC-BIOPHOSPHATE
solution and P-concentrate from digestate, manure
and wastewater by TerraOrganic FFT&HEF system

Competitive Position and Advantage:

 The TerrawaterFFT and HEFtechnologies separate and recover effective nutrients from digestate, manure
and wastewater. The separation into solid/liquid phases results in a significant reduction in volume and
concentration of nutrients. This significantly increases the transportability of the produced
recyclates.Depending on the input material, a large part of the phosphate is concentrated in the thick
sludge. With the downstream HEF technology, an ammonium sulphate solution can be produced as a
defined liquid N-fertiliser. This can be used directly or be added to the thick sludge to produce an N,P
fertilizer worthy of transport. With the optional TerrawaterSaline technology (see ID 453), a crystalline N-
fertilizer (ammonium sulphate) can be produced from the ammonium sulphate solution. It is a modular
system to adjusted to needed size and container based, so no extra building is needed
 The TerrawaterFFT and HEF technologies extract water, P and N from digestate, manure and recyclatesof
biogas plants
 Concentrate the nutrients of the recyclates and increase of the transport worthiness
 Very efficient Ammonia and Ammoniac extraction (up to 99%)
 Recovery of a defined liquid N-fertilizer (ALS)
 Produce defined N- fertilizer out of digestate, manure and recirculate of biogas plant
 Mineral N-Fertilizer out of organics
 Allows the use of more manure (chicken or similar) in biogas plants because of Ammonia extraction
 Reduce the needed storage capacity for manure and digestate
 Highly efficient heat use (2,7 litre per kW thermal)
 Environmentally friendly product
