Workplace Wellness

 
A) Purpose of Project

1) Understand the concept of workplace wellness

Workplace wellness refers to a work environment conducive to the health and well being
of the employees and others within it. It involves any activity or organizational policy
designed to support healthy behaviour in the workplace and to improve health outcomes.
 workplace wellness often comprises activities such as health education, medical
screenings, weight management programs, stress management, web based education and
on-site fitness programs or facilities.
Encouraging healthier lifestyle at the workplace may get many valuable benefits to the
workplace. Corporate wellness programs can reduce absenteeism, improve productivity,
and grow positive morale.
 
2)     Developing road for intervention for the wellness of the employee at the
organization
 
B) Methodology

1)     Observation of the democracy of the employees (as per age)


2)     Collect data of common medical problems (Both infectious and Non – infectious
3)     Collect data of the employee with co-morbidities (Eg – Diabetes, Dyslipidemia,
Hypertension, Ischemic heart disease)
4)     Interaction with ER Head, Plant Head & Union about the condition
5)     Framing Recommendation & Action to be taken in various preventive aspect
 
C)   Brief Introduction

1)     Mahindra and Mahindra “Tractor” plant was founded on 1966 at Kandivali having
human force of 1500 workmen
a)      Permanent worker – 750
b)      Officer – 100
c)      Contract, Neem , Apprentice – 650
2)     The median age of permanent workers is 52 Yrs of which 30-40 % of employee has
history of co morbidity such as Diabetes, Blood pressure, Dyslipidemia, Ischemic heart
Disease
Rest of the employees is relatively young with no current history.

 
D) Road map of intervention for employees with comorbidities

1)     To conduct annual health check – up for our employees as per Factories Act yearly.
2)     The vendor assigned to do the annual health check – up will be told to prepare Excel
sheet of employees with co morbidities
3)     The data collected will be discussed with Plant Head, ER Head & Union and
accordingly measures to be taken to get the parameters in normal limit
4)    The blood test of the employees with comorbidities will be done from our in-house
Lab.
5) After the blood test result, the employees will be consulted to make necessary changes
in medications and diet consultation will be done by inhouse Dietician to achieve better
results
6) To educate the employees by focussing on the preventive measure such as diet changes
and exercise to improve their overall health. And educating further regarding the
complications of the disease.
7) To conduct Live Webinars with consultants from various hospitals in their local language
to give detailed information about various medical conditions, how to take preventive
measures to control the disease and thereby prevent further complications.
8)  The rise in non-communicable disease is due to hectic and sedentary lifestyle. By
observing various health day - International’s women’s Day, World’s Diabetes day, World
Heart Day, world mental day etc helps to spread awareness about such diseases. Various
webinars, camps and individual and group activities to be organised as per the health day
for the employees
9) Regular follow – up to be done with the employees to monitor the progress.
10) To corporate yoga class – which includes meditation, doing asanas and motivational
talk for the employees to bond, relax and cultivate the clearer the mind. Breathing
techniques available help to alleviate stress and anxiety. Educate the employees to do
chair or desk yoga as it can be useful when individuals want to practice specific poses on
their own or just get some stretching in it.
11) Integrating physical activities into the workday by going for short walks
12) Handling out fitness trackers as it may make some wellness incentives easier to follow.
13) Alteration of the canteen menu and introducing healthy food counter

Workplace wellness is now a pillar of organizational success and corporate culture.


Cultivating a wellness-based environment in the workplace will benefit the employees.

Focus to be given on their physical, mental well being and have good control parameters
for promoting well being at workplace and avoiding future complications
