DESIGN DATA & GENERAL ARRANGEMENT

Loading

Dead load Unit wt. Of concrete at 2.5 t/cum

Unit wt. Of brick work at 2.0 t/cum
Live load 500 Kg/sqm on floors Unless other wise specified
200 kg/sqm on accessible roof (250+50 dust load)
125 kg/sqm on Non accessible roof (75+50 dust load)

Equipment Load a) Loading for Side dicharge wagon tippler -

b) Other equpment loads i.e from appron feeder etc. will be as per system drgs
C) Monorail/Hoist loads as per System drawings with Impact Factor of 1.25

Coal Load Unit weight of coal at 1.05 t/cum

Angle of Repose at 37 deg.

Earth pressure case 1 Dry case with unit weight of soil = 1.8 t/cum
case 2 Water table case
Ka (earth pressure coefficient) Ka =Ko = 0.5 ( at rest)
For the design, case -1 is critical , hence the same is considered

Live load surcharge pressure 2 t/sqm 2*0.5 = 1 t/sqm on pit walls

Buoyancy foundations resting on soil = 1.0

for design of Walls, beams Water table level is considered at finished grade level
and counterforts
for uplift calculations Water table level is considered at finished grade level

Loading appled in STAAD model

load 1 dead load (including self weight)
load 2 load due to weight of saturated soil/pcc fill over raft projects
load 3 live load + minor equipment load (incl. LL surcharge pressure on walls)
load 4 side pressure on walls (water pr + submerged soil pressure)
load 5 coal load from hopper
load 6 major equipment load wagon tippler at rest with wagon just kept on tippler table
load 7 major equipment load wagon just lifted from rest position but it is still connected
to load cell
load 8 major equipment load wagon tippler in operation
load 9 major equipment load same as load 7 but reverse direction

Approach to analysis and design

Item Analysis Design

Walls using engineering monograph no 27 design using IS:456 allowable crack width e/f 0.1 mm , away 0.3m m

floor slabs manually using coeff. Of IS:456 designed using IS:456 (LSM)

pit floor beams IS:456-(LSM) staad design

The entire pit including walls and base raft

columns/cfs IS:456-(LSM) staad design
will be modelled as flat shell element s in
STAAD for structural analysis. The
tie beams IS:456-(LSM) staad design
Counterfort’s,Tie beams and base raft are
idealized using beam elements and soil is
represented with linear elastic springs with raft IS:456 allow. Crack width e/f 0.1 mm away 0.3 mm
values of subgrade reactions (ks) attached
to bottom of raft as supporting system

WT-1&2 , WT-3&4 modelledl Seperately

including interconnecting tunnel
Modulus of subgrade reactions has considered for wagon tippler area as follows
Modulus of subgrade reactions
Ks = 2500 t/m3 (assumed based on available soil report )

Hopper in contact with soil Analysed manually for proposed config. using IS:456

Check for Surcharge pressure due to Railway load

designed surcharge pressure 2 t/sqm

As per Bridge Rules cl 2.3.4.2 and modified BG loading - 1987

Load = 8.25 t/m

over a width of 2745 mm at top
dispersion 0.5 horz and 1 vertical (as per cl 2.3.4.2 of Bridge rules)

dispersion at say 1.5 m below = 8.25 = 1.94 t/sqm

(2.745+1.5*0.5*2) < Designed surcharge pressure of 2 t/sqm

loading = 8.25 t/m

2745 mm

1.5 m
2745 + 1500
pressure at this level = 1.94 t/sqm

Hence the surcharge pressure of 2 t/sqm is critical for design

Materials

Sub DESIGN OF WAGON TIPPLER COMPLEX - Retaining wall References/Remarks

Check for stability

As the wall is resting on 300 thick solid raft which is monolithk with main Wt structure
Hence the stability of retaining wall is not critical for design.

total designed ht = 2.8 m
Wall design

BM = 5.85 tm
provide Y12-100 mm c/c
Wall design (acted upon by thrust of +or- 6 T )

6 t acting at 2.75 m width I.e 6 /2.75 = 2.18 t

Design BM due to thrust = 2.18 * 2.5 = 5.45 tm

Total design BM = 5.45 + 5.85 = 11.5 tm/m

M/bd2 = 2.4 , pt = 0.75, Ast = 0.75*1000*240/100 = 1800 sqmm

Hence provide Y16-100 c/c for retaining wall acted upon by thrust of 6 t on e/f

(For 350 mm thick wall provide Y16-125 mm c/c on Either face)
