the needs of Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) learners. The lesson is anchored
in developing the basic learning competencies in English 4 of the K to 12
Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum.
Before going through the module, orient the learners with the signs and
icons of this learning resource. Remind them that they need to read the
instructions carefully and must follow the sequence of the activities
accordingly.
Let them write their answers of the pre-test, assessment, and other
exercises in a separate sheet of paper. They can refer their answers to the Self-
Check Section which is found at the last part of this module.

Some believe that all the verbs in the simple past form ends in d or
ed, but others also believe that all verbs in simple past form don’t end in
d or ed. So which is correct?

In this module, you will learn to understand the difference between


the regular and irregular past form of the verbs.

After going through this module you are expected to use the past
form of the regular and irregular verbs correctly. ( EN4G-IIg-7/EN4G-IIh-

A Nice Weekend
Ana and Karen had nice weekends. On Friday evening they went
at the playground. They played with a ball. On Saturday Karen helped
her mother. The girl cleaned the floor and washed the dishes. Then she
played computer games. On Saturday evening Karen went to the zoo
with her parents. She watched lions and monkeys there. Ana went at the
cinema on Saturday. She watched an interesting cartoon. In the evening
Ana walked her dog in the park. On Sunday Ana and Karen went at the
beach. They swam in the river. The girls had a lovely time! In the
evening they came home and did their homework. Ana and Karen went
to bed early because they had to go to school on Monday.

How do words in column A change their present form into past
form of the verb? How about in column B?

Yes you are right! Words in column A change their present form to
past form by adding d or ed at the end of the verbs while in column B the
spelling of the words change.

Regular Verbs form its past tense by adding d or ed at the
end of the word. Thus, change their spelling.
Most irregular Verbs change their spelling to form their past
tense. A few have the same form in both present and past tense.
Ex. put- put; read-read
