inclusiveness to overcome prejudices; and develop social and cultural competence to guide their
interactions with groups, communities, networks and institutions.

Guide questions
1. Why do we need to understand the idea of culture, society and politics?
 Our every-day existence is defined by the set of things we believe, experience, and inherit as
qualities. Furthermore, due to the complexity of the world, these are not completely
independent or homogeneous experiences. Many diverse cultures can define and impact one.
 Understanding culture helps us develop those relationships if society is viewed as a group of
people in relationship or contact with one another. Culture has an impact on how we move
around and perceive the world. If we take the time to grasp the why and how behind how
other people operate the way they do, we can create a better society and better relationships.
 Politics is one of the systems that organize us. It is a representation of the social contract that
society engages into with a representative or governing body in order to have their beliefs
and rights protected. Politicians and policymakers must grasp such principles and rights in
order to properly protect them. Culture is the foundation for the inputs that define what we
value and believe. Ignoring the influence of culture, or undervaluing the relevance of those
experiences, leads to policies and politics that only help some while harming others, or leads
to marginalizing groups that contribute to the interactions within our society.
2. How would sociology and anthropology contribute in the better understanding of society?

“Change is the only permanent thing in this world.”

- Heraclitus
