Why this Project ?


The inviting public space creating an iconic pres-
ence amongst other pavillions present by mixing
the play of light and shadows in the interiors and
also radiating light towards the exteriors making it
an interesting structure.
With the use of only one main material and tech-
nique, focus on the local craft is retained which is
helping in creating an identity in a foriegn land for
the region.

Why this Project ?


Its the project that gets its identity from the mod-
ern approach towards Jaipur’s famous jalis that
are being used in the forts present in Rajasthan’s
landscape.
Single material approach, where GRC panels are
met along the diagonals break the monotonity of
the facade.
The two skins created due to the presence of
panels help in creating a buffer fromo Jaipur’s hot
weather and also help in creating the play of lights
during the night time.

Why this Project ?


Using the elements that are core to the south Indi-
an architecture, this restaurant is the representation
of an indian woman wearing vermillion and saree
defining the intricacies of it.
The ornamentation has been done in a subtle man-
ner creative an aura of intricate design as well as
not flooding the small space with too many details
to understand.

Responding to the collection of arts and crafts of
the owner, the spaces have been defined in order
to highlight the master pieces that are being col-
lected by them.
The space is enlivened by the presence of sculp-
tures and crafts and also give it a serene museum
like peace as the spaces and staircases are carved
around it.

Why this Project ?


Typical Gujarati interior references can be seen
through the interiors of this house.
The swing in the centre of living area, courtyard for
light and ventilation, open dog legged staircase
with wrought iron like detailed railing, the use of
stained glass, papintings depicting fora and fauna
like in traditional structures, give the essence to the
interiors of the space.

Why this Project ?


Learning from the traditional techniques, the village
community/ exhibition centre has been designed
by the architects so that the contemporary survives
with the help of the traditional.
The roofing, raised seatings, stone walls, wooden
trusses, wooden furniture - all contrbute to the
warm interiors of the space while responding to
the surroundings and keeping the local techniques
alive.

Why this Project ?

The use of bamboo as an important structural


element and creating a space that is climatically
responsive to the heavy rainfall region of Bali, Indo-
nesia is what makes the project interesting.
Bamboo being engineered by structurally design-
ing as well as defining the interior quality of the
space that the envelope in itself is sufficient for the
structure and warmth, ventilation and light of the
interior space.

Why this Project ?

Using the existing constructiono techniques and


planning of the region i.e. Kerela, the designer re-
sponded to the space making process in a manner
of mixing the old with the new by maintaining the
concept of courtyard but at the same time intro-
ducing the curves within the structure resultin in the
space quality created.
use of brick jali in the front facad creates interest in
the monotonous brick facade and also allowing the
light and ventilation inside the structure.

Why this Project ?

The project does not only use the tecnique of the


craft but it directs how the space has to flow based
upon creating the exhibition space for the craft
making craft itself the part of interior space provid-
ing warmth as well as decorating the interiors.

Furniture shows the collaboration of the new mate-


rial that is concrete along with the craft of bamboo
weaving and giving it the structural strength along
with maintaining the aeesthetics of the furniture.
