LAB 1
Title: To identify computer specification in details via BIOS configuration setup and CPUZ
Utility.

Objective : 1. To enable students to identify their computers’ specification in details


using BIOS configuration setup and free utility called CPUZ.
2. To enable students to configure the bios configuration setup and
determine the important configuration details for their computer.
3. To help students become familiar with free utility program called CPUZ
4. To enable them to specify the computer specification details from
THREE (3) different ways namely BIOS, Windows, and utility program.

Prerequisites Student must use his/her own laptop computer with Windows installation ready

Method 1. using BIOS configuration setup


i. During POST, press the BIOS setup key or key combination (F1,
F2, DEL, CTRL +ALT+DEL , key depend on your computer
model or type)

ii. The BIOS setup program screen will appear

iii. Choose the configuration menu at menu option :

a) Main System Information

b) Advanced CPU Configuration

c) Advanced Chipset

iv. Exit the bios setup and discard any changes.

2. Using CPUZ Utility

i. Download and install the CPUZ from


http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
ii. Run the setup executable file, and follow the installation process.
iii. Once the installation is completed, run the CPUZ application.
iv. Below are the information that can be extracted from the CPUZ

Component Details

CPU Name and number


Core stepping and process
Package
Core voltage
Internal and external clocks, clock multiplier
Supported instruction sets
Cache information.

Mainboard Vendor, model and revision.


BIOS model and date.
Chipset (northbridge and southbridge) and
sensor.
Graphic interface.

Memory Frequency and timings.


Module(s) specification using SPD (Serial
Presence Detect) : vendor, serial number,
timings table.

System Windows and DirectX version.

Graphic GPU, Name, Vendor, Clock and Memory

3. From Windows XP (as an example)

i. Right Click Computer and choose properties

ii. or under Control Panel\System and Security\System, basic


information about computer will be displayed
