Reflection Paper #1

Write a reflection paper about your prior assessment experience as a student.

- Describe your prior assessment experience as a student.

- Justify what you like and don’t like these assessments.
- How would you want your prior learning achievements to be measured?
- To what extent do you think these assessments reflected your actual learning
achievements?
- To what extent do you think you have employed these assessments in assessing your
student learning achievements?

1. When I was a student, I did not have a good experience with the school assessment because
teachers often assess the answers based on the textbook. Furthermore, a big portion of the test was
made for students to memorize.

2. Oftentimes, I did well with assignments and content of the subject. However, I was not a
textbook kind of student. I often provided answers based on my understanding, teacher would
always deduct some of my marks for that. I am strongly against memorizing because I have always
preferred understanding of the content.

3. It would have been great if there was a clear distinction between comprehension and
interpretation or practice. I acknowledge that comprehension is important; however, I believe this
only touches the surface of real understanding of the content. Therefore, it would be great for
assessment to emphasize the interpretation and practice while also spare some fore comprehension.

4. Looking at how well I often do in assignments and interpretation or applying questions, I am

certain that I would have gotten better result if these were emphasized. The assessment somehow
dramatically doesn’t reflect my actual learning achievements because I often lose points due to not
remember what the textbooks say exactly about the definition of key terms.

5. I would say I rely 30% on these assessments. The reason is these assessments allow us to
measure the accuracy and student’s learning outcome that we set. The remaining percentage goes to
observation and quality of the work. These two areas involve holistic and standardized assessments.
