To Whom It May Concern,

For the past 8 years, I’ve developed a passion for working with young kids because I struggled
a lot with academics while I was growing up. There were many times that I was pulled out of my
classroom from the age of 7 and up because I was moving at a slower rate than most
kids. Fortunately, I overcame my struggle and ever since then I’ve had an inner sense of
obligation to help young children.

When I was in college, I discovered that when I made some lifestyle changes, altered my diet
and incorporated neuroscience, learning became a lot easier. Neuroscience relates to how the
brain learns and retains information and my knowledge of it has steadily increased since 2012. I
decided to attend DePaul University for a Masters in Elementary Education since some of the
course material connects to neuroscience. DePaul has provided the best opportunity for me to
enhance my knowledge and I’d love to utilize my skillset by serving students who could benefit
from it.

I’m aware that a lot of at-risk children are missing critical support systems, especially in their
home. It was a real pleasure for me to fill in the gap when I started working at By The Hand
Club For Kids. By The Hand Club For Kids had us stay in touch with parents, teachers, and
counselors to ensure that the child’s support was full circle. For example, whenever one of the
students got anything less than a C, I’d make an academic plan to put the child back on track
and I’d share this with their parents and teachers. I would also do frequent home visits and
school visits just to make sure there was an open line of communication.

Working at By The Hand Club For Kids was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I got the
chance to mentor children of different ages as well as assist them with their school work. I
enjoyed setting a good example and being a positive role model they could look up to. Some of
the kids were a little tough, however, I have a heart for at-risk children and I was able to get
through to a couple of them by being compassionate and understanding. With the preparation
that DePaul has provided through class sessions and student teaching, I feel very equipped to
handle a class of my own. My field experience also taught me the importance of student
engagement and building relationships. Not only did I build relationships with the students, but I
also built relationships with parents, counselors and other faculty members. This provided me
with the insight I needed to properly cater to the various needs of certain students.

In closing, I’d love to put my knowledge to use because I feel that my skills, experience, and
work ethic would be a good fit for any institution.

Sincerely,

James Ebomoyi
