AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER:

INTRODUCTION:

As a fresh graduate from PAF KIET I would like to seek an opportunity in the Air Traffic

controller department. Air Traffic Controllers are professionals who provide air traffic services

for the safe, efficient, and orderly flow of air traffic, both in the air and on the ground at an

airport.

The reason why I chose this career for me because it is my dream to become an Air Traffic

Controller, Being an air traffic controller is an extremely high-stress job, with workers

responsible for the movement and direction of thousands of lives onboard commercial and

general aviation aircraft every day. Air traffic controller’s job is not easy that everyone can do, it

requires potential to become one and I think I have that kind of spirit to become one and my

background is also related to the Aviation Management. Another reason for choosing this

career is to make people belief that they are safe and sound when traveling and there are

professionals and responsible people behind this job. People don’t feel safe sometime when

they travel, so the main aim is to make them belief that there is nothing to worry about and

there are responsible persons handling their safety. An air traffic controller is responsible for

controlling all ground traffic at airports. This includes incoming and outgoing planes, airport

workers, maintenance, and baggage vehicles. They issue landing and takeoff instructions to

pilots and monitor and/or direct aircraft movements both in the air and the on ground through

the use of computers, visual references, and radars. Air traffic controllers oversee

communications by accepting incoming flights and transferring control of departing flights to

other traffic control centers. They must provide weather updates or other relevant information

to pilots and be ready to authorize necessary flight path changes. An air traffic controller must

be skilled in math, problem-solving, communication, and decision making.

How air traffic controllers operate? Air traffic controllers use radar, computers, or visual

references to monitor and direct the movement of the aircraft in the skies and ground traffic at

airports. Controllers usually manage multiple aircraft at the same time and must make quick

decisions to ensure the safety of aircraft. In order to become an air traffic controller you must

complete several steps. First you must attend an Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI)

program, then you must pass various assessments, and only then are you considered for a

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) training program. These pre-employment requirements,

training programs, and tests have specific guidelines set by the FAA. AT-CTI programs can last

anywhere from 2-4 years and designed to educate applicants hoping for jobs in the air traffic

control industry. Training includes reading maps, aviation weather patterns, federal regulations,

airspace allowances, flying clearances, and other relevant information regarding aviation. There

are certain more requirements that need in order to become an air traffic controller not just a

degree and training but it also requires:

 Concentration skills.

 Knowledge of transport methods costs and benefits.

 The ability to use your judgment and make decisions.

 The ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure.

 Excellent verbal communication skills.

 Complex problem-solving skills.

 To be thorough and pay attention to detail.

In conclusion I would like to conclude that being an air traffic controller you must be quick with

your decisions making and requires responsibility because if you are lacking anywhere in your

job then you should know that lives of 150-200 passengers are stake so you must do your job

whole heartedly.
