Module I. Week I.
In the following drawing, the green spheres represent atoms of a certain element.
The purple spheres represent atoms of another element. If the spheres touch, they are part
of a single unit of a compound. Does the following chemical change represented by these
symbols violate any of the ideas of Dalton’s atomic theory? If so, which one?

Answer
Differentiate the discoveries from Dalton (atomic theory), Thomson (the electron);
Rutherford (the nucleus), and Bohr (planetary model of atom) and state how these discoveries lead
to the modern theory. Write your answer in Essay form. See the rubric to be guided accordingly.
Module 2. Week 2.
Naming and Formula Writing for Ionic Compounds
Part 1:
Procedure:
1. Click the link for digital dice. (Ctrl Click to open the link)
2. In the menu at the top of the website choose to use the pink and blue dice so they match the
dice key below..
3. Roll the dice and using the key below record the cation (+ ion) and the anion (- ion) in the
data table.
4. Write the correct chemical formula for the ionic compound. Keep in mind the ratio of ions
within the formula. Use this symbol website . (Ctrl Click to open the link)
5. for subscripts and superscripts.
6. Name the chemical compound. Be sure to use roman numerals when more than one
possible charge exists for the cation.
7. Repeat so that you have created 10 different chemical formulas.
8. An example has been completed for you.
