Performance Task in Grade 12 STEM – General Physics 1

First Semester, SY 2021-2022

I. Topic: Torque

II. Overview:
Torque is the measure of the turning effect of a rigid body. It is
operationally define as the product of a perpendicular force and the length of
its lever arm from the pivot or axis of rotation. Lever arm is a measure of a
distance from the force applied to the pivot.

PERFORMANCE TASK NO. 1

Situation:

Kate and Clint are playing in the seesaw. The seesaw is 4 m long with the
pivot at the center. Clint weighs 80 kg while Kate weighs 60 kg. Using the given data,
answer the following questions based on the given scenarios:

Reminder: For your solution, kindly follow the GRESA method.

Activity Questions:

1. If Clint sits 0.75 m to the left of the pivot, how far should Kate sit on the
opposite side for the system to be balanced? (Show your solution)
