ASSIGNMENT-1 MAXIMUM STUDENT PER GROUP-

Given:

The dam has the following data:

 Coefficient of permeability of dam material k=6*10-4m/s

 Normal pool level, NPL =2060.00masl.
 Level of deepest river bed =2000.00masl.
 Water depth over the spillway =1.0m
 Width of top of the dam =4.5m
 Upstream slope = 3:1
 Downstream slope =2.5:1
 Wind velocity = 15km/hr
 Fetch length, F=0.6km
 Wind direction for fetch =00
 Consider 1.5% for settlement allowance

For flow net the following data are shown:

 Number of flow channels, Nf=4

 Total number of equipotential drops, Nd=12

Required:

 Freeboard height and Top level of the dam

 Sketch the dam for given dimension
 Determine the equation of phreatic line and sketch it on the section of the dam
 Sketch the flow net for the given number of channels and equipotential drops
 Determine the total volume of water that can pass through the body of dam
