10-3 - Camesa - Final Constructive Speech - T2
I believe that legalizing vaping is necessary in the Philippines because of the following: Firstly, it
can help people quit smoking. The second reason is that vaping is a way to ingest tobacco a lot
more safely compared to smoking. And my final reason is that it creates jobs for people,
reduces health care costs, and in the long run, helps the economy.
Allow me to elaborate, vape and cigarettes both deliver nicotine, right? So, people may start
asking me like: “So how does vaping help people stop smoking when it also delivers the same
thing cigarettes do?”, and you’re right. But what you fail to consider is how much nicotine gets
delivered. The website called “The Fog Works” states that 1 milliliter of vape juice is equal to
100 puffs, and 100 puffs are equivalent to about 10 cigarettes meaning that 2 milliliters of vape
juice is equal to roughly about 1 pack of cigarettes. In simpler terms, vaping delivers a lot less
nicotine as compared to smoking. Also, the website of LSBU states that vaping is also less
addictive than cigarettes. With that being said, people can use vape to quit smoking since
before you take out the nicotine completely, you just lessen its amount until you get used to
is. According to the website “Vaping Facts”, Cigarettes emit nicotine through burning tobacco
which also creates numerous harmful toxins that can damage your lungs. Meanwhile vape
delivers its nicotine much more safely by using e-liquid. It heats up this liquid then once you
inhale it, you ingest the nicotine. This relates a lot to my first point since vape is safer, its better
than cigarettes and thus, aids people in quitting smoking. Lastly, not only does it help the
smokers stop smoking or maybe even taking nicotine products, it also reduces the cases of
people getting sick from second hand smoking since the lesser cigarettes your exposed to
My third and final point is that the vaping industry helps the economy. It helps because the
whole making-selling-buying process of vape, just like any industry, creates jobs for people and
it also gives business another option to thrive on so that they can profit more. According to
ProCon.org, a psychiatrist named Sally Satel said that promoting e-cigarettes to smokers should
be a priority. Especially considering the fact that smoking health care costs are about $130
billion per year and getting smokers to switch won’t only save money but it would also save
lives. Also, economist J. Scott Moody stated that the harm reduction from people who switch
In conclusion, I believe that legalizing vaping is necessary due to 1, the impact it could have on
smokers and how it could contribute to help them quit smoking. 2, how much lives it can truly
save and the impact it has even on non-smokers. And lastly, its impact on the economy and
unemployment. Let me end with one quote that summarizes why I decided to look into all of
this: “Whenever you burn a cigarette, your life burns with it.”. Thank you all for listening.
