Port Nelson Limited is owned by the Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council. Our purpose
is to facilitate regional prosperity.

POSITION: Port Asset Engineer


INCUMBENT:
REPORTS TO: Senior Port Engineer
LOCATION: Nelson

SECTION B
POSITION OBJECTIVE: To manage the repairs and replacement of PNL’s infrastructure and facilities assets
in accordance with the Project Maintenance and Capital expenditure programme.

To coordinate the annual maintenance programme associated with PNL


infrastructure and facilities assets and provide project management of engineering
and facilities projects including the development of scopes, plans, costs estimates,
specifications, work schedules and supervise the maintenance and construction of
these works.

SECTION C
KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Key Accountabilities Task
• Work with the Maintenance Team to ensure all infrastructure and facilities
assets are captured within Maximo (Asset Management Software) and have
accurate information recorded and attached.
• Ensure all compliance requirements are identified and required inspections,
certifications are attached the relevant asset, and monitoring, reporting or
recertifications are scheduled
• Prepare Annual infrastructure and facilities repair and replacement
programmes, including cost estimates for budgeting, forecast, and planning.
• Ensure that any maintenance or new works undertaken are recorded and
added to the maintenance and assets register
• Manage immediate maintenance and repair works that may be required.
• Manage, administrator and report on significant maintenance and
construction contracts.
• Manage the procurement of contractors and materials for works related with
the Annual repair and replacement programme
• Manage the procurement (including tender where identified) of contractors
and materials for works related to any unscheduled repairs or replacements.
• Manage the design process associated with repair and replacement works
and prepare estimates for options relating to forward work.
• Complete cost-benefit analysis and reporting of benefits of various options.
• Manage communications with internal operations associated with repair and
replacement works and any capital projects works
• Input into the preparation of Resource Consent and Building consent
applications.
• Have oversight of the Building Consents and Building Warrants of Fitness’s
held or in progress at any time by Port Nelson.
• Input into valuations of plant, buildings, and other facilities.
• Manage the company’s CAD records and ensure any repairs or
replacements are recorded on-site services plans and infrastructure plans.
• Liaise with the General Manager – Environment and Infrastructure Senior
Port Engineer, Marine Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager,
Business Unit Managers, Property Officer, and Executive Managers on
planned work, to ensure that relevant inputs from all staff, customers,
tenants, etc involved in projects underway have their needs addressed in a
way that benefits the company direction.
• Ensure Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements are met.
• The undertaking of other duties as the company may from time to time
require.

• Participate in incident investigations or H&S Audits within your area as
required
• Promptly report all hazards/maintenance relevant to plant and equipment
• Participate in H&S training and keep up to date with H&S best practice
• Actively participate in any rehabilitation that should be required

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications: NZCE (Civil)
Experience: Diploma Engineering (Civil)
Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil)
Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)
Asset Management Qualification (desirable)
CP Eng (desirable)
At least 7 years experience in Civil or Structural engineering, or similar role and
Asset Management
Experience with Maximo (Asset Management Software) or similar.
Sound knowledge of Building Act and Resource Management Act requirements.
CAD experience.
Maintaining an engineering records system.
Skills and Knowledge: Written and verbal communication.
Report writing.
