Security Systems to make this world a better place to live

Security – the freedom from risk or danger. System – a set of devices powered by electricity.
The two words put together mean a hardware system that prevents unauthorised intrusion into
a premise, and reports such attempts. In simpler sense Security System, means devices
designed to guard people and property from a broad range of hazards. It is literally a means or
method by which something is secured through a system of interworking components and
devices.

Security systems have gained popularity in today’s modern world. With the high rate of
crimes involving burglaries and break-ins, technology has found a way to keep homes,
properties, and families safe.

The world’s cities are bursting at the seams, civic resources are under pressure and crime is
harder than ever to police. As it stands, most video surveillance technology is inefficient.
Police investigations are often hampered by blind spots in video networks and low-quality
imagery. Issues with data storage and retrieval mean incident data can be slow to reach
command staff, and data loss can derail investigations altogether. However, new technology
is starting to become available to help police combat crime more effectively.

The security and surveillance industry is changing and solutions have moved far past basic
alarm monitoring. Live video surveillance and other remote service security features have
increased visibility for organisations that want to safeguard their people, assets and buildings.
The internet of things (IoT) is helping create safer cities homes and businesses by enabling
both private and public organisations to securely and remotely monitor facilities in public
spaces in real-time with smart security and surveillance solutions.

By harnessing the power of IoT for security and surveillance solutions, many useful and
smart services are provided such as managing and controlling surveillance devices remotely
to monitor all aspects of a facility, making smart decisions about the best course of action to
take based on real time security conditions, determining when there is a false alarm without
having to physically inspect the location or unnecessarily dispatched law enforcement,
collecting and analysing data to make important improvements to security processes and
systems.

The origins of security systems are obscure, but techniques for protecting the household, such
as the use of locks and barred windows, are very ancient. As civilizations developed, the
distinction between passive and active security was recognized, and responsibility for active
security measures was vested in police and fire-fighting agencies.

The main and most essential reason to invest in security system is to deter crime. In typical
situations the mere presence of a security system would ward of burglars and intruders.
However, there are instances, when even though there are people inside the house burglars
still intrude and find ways to get into the house and get what they can. Another important
reason to invest in alarm monitoring is for smoke and fire detection, which often comes as
part of the security package. The security system sends out alerts therefore making the people
inside get out of the house and go to a safer place in case there is a real fire. Alerts are sent
out to proper authorities, making them respond right away to the scene to prevent more
damage to property.

Modern security systems can be accessed through different electronic devices such as
computers, tablets or mobile phones. With novel technology and cloud systems, one can be
aware of the situation wherever they are: at home, on vacation or commuting. Modern
technology implemented in electronic security systems allows one to travel for longer periods
of time. With instant security alerts on the devices one can find out about the security breach
within seconds. With complex security codes and accessibility to CCTV footages from
anywhere in the world.

Nowadays artificial intelligence plays a big part in household functions and routines. So,
even security systems are equipped with features which can enable home automation.
Meaning, it can turn off the lights, regulate the heater or the air condition system, it even does
the other daily routines that sometimes forgotten in a hurry.

A home security system is a group of physical electronic components that all work together
to protect a home. Often, a home security system consists of the following objects:

Security camera: Smart security cameras hook up to Wi-Fi, enabling livestream footage and
notifications when the cameras detect movement.

2
Motion sensor: Motion sensors are placed in a main entryway on the ground floor so that they
can detect motion and alert us when the system is armed.

Entry sensor: These sensors use magnets to determine when one of these entrances is opened
or closed. If the sensor thinks an entry point is opened, it alerts us.

Siren: Sires are intended to scare intruders away or alert the neighbours.

Keypad: To arm or disarm, security systems commonly require a code, which is entered on a
keypad that’s mounted to the wall or placed on a flat surface.

Key fob: Key fobs allow us to disarm or arm our security system without having to use a
keypad.

Panic button: If something goes wrong, a panic button is an easy and fast way to alert
emergency services.

Smoke and CO detectors: With this simple tool, one can be alerted if the air becomes unsafe
to breathe.

Security system components vary wildly from system to system, even if they consist of just
some sensors and components but they make far more difference in life, more than one can
imagine. Numerous studies show that premises without security systems, when compared to
those with monitored security systems are more likely to be burglarized as they seem to be
easy target.

Having a security system in place reassures people that they are safe. It gives people peace of
mind and control of the situation in case of emergencies. Protection of human life while
safeguarding buildings, assets and inventories is the main function of security systems. It
helps reducing the impact of criminal activities around the premises.

As, technology is improving the lives of many people in different ways, Security Systems
integrated with IoT and AI can make it possible to gain greater visibility over the world and

of accidents.
