Spring 2022

The calendar says it is SPRING now but in our hemisphere that might still take a
little while. Meanwhile occasional warmer days allow for some nice walks in the
neighbourhood, an opportunity to catch nature’s beautiful light and shapes!

This year, we hope for some normalcy to finally return to our lives. However,
there are new threats on the horizon and uncertainty will remain with us for a
while. Gratitude for what we have been blessed with is one way to handle all the
bad news but that alone is often not enough to keep us going or keep us positive.
As creative beings, we cannot help being affected by what is going on around
us. Thankfully, there is a big community of artists trying to keep communications
open, sharing our daily efforts and helping each other to remain engaged.
Classes have been in full swing and some workshops/demonstrations are
available both via Zoom and in person.

I am glad to confirm that my 2 workshops from early January were rescheduled

and now will take place at Parkdale Nifty Fifties (403-283-0620): Call them if
interested. There are a few spaces in each of them.

Friday, March 25, 10am to 4 pm LUSCIOUS PASTELS

Saturday, March 26, 10am to 4 pm ABSTRACTS IN ACRYLIC
Some exhibitions have returned to normal, some are still virtual: I have been
fortunate to be included in these shows, both for digital photography:

“Organic Patterns”, ASA “In Focus” Exhibition

at the Calgary Public Library

“The Old Lock”

SCA Open International Online Exhibition
I love photography and am always pleased when my work is recognized. My
earliest childhood memories go back to evenings where my father, also a
photographer and painter, developed pictures in tubs of mysterious fluid; how
exciting it was then to see the image emerge. Even though technology has
changed and we see the images as we take them on the screen of our camera, it
is still exciting to see the final product in print.

Finally, this spring, we see a lot of in-person exhibitions/art shows by local art
associations return. There is just nothing better than looking at the real thing
and be with like-minded people.

Some amongst us have resumed travel or have plans in place for this year. I
particularly look forward to exploring new areas with my camera so there is
enough to inspire future paintings, something I really have missed. There is still
room in some of these holidays so let me know if you are interested as there is a
variety of domestic and international options:

Explore Newfoundland, May/June 2022

Great Bear Rainforest (Tugboat), June 2022 FULL
Le Vieux Couvent/France, October 2022
Amalfi Coast/Italy, October 2022
La Foce/Tuscany/Italy, May 2023
Greece, Fall 2023

I am also returning to the Naramata Centre, located in the wine country of the
Okanagan, British Columbia, a place for quiet retreat and programming
surrounded by beautiful lakeside scenery and quaint wineries:
A place to truly recharge your batteries!

“Vino Nobile”, Pastel, 16”x12”

Check it out at www.naramatacentresociety.org. I will be teaching a general

watercolour course the week of July 24-30, 2022 in the mornings which means
there is plenty of time to explore the area.

Meanwhile, there are always the beautiful surroundings we live in. A drive to the
mountains, whether nearby to Canmore or Banff or Waterton, just down south,
can provide much needed inspiration:

“View Through the Trees”, Acrylic, 12”x16”

“Canyon Road Drive”, AC, 8”x10” “Red Rock Canyon Walk”, Pastel, 14”x11”

I hope spring will bring you lots of chances for renewal!

Best wishes, happy spring!
