Mini-Research Title:

The Academic Performance of Grade 10 Sampaguita Students at

The Lamb of God Special Education Academy in English
during the Third Quarter of the School Year 2021-2022.

I. Background of the Study

English is used internationally as a lingua franca among people coming from

different cultures, races, and social backgrounds (Dewi, 2015). It is an essential part
of the school curriculum, as it is used in both daily life and the study of other
subjects. However, it is widely held that most students dislike English.

Many students struggle academically and are becoming uninterested in this

subject specially if they are confronted with several assessments. Black and Wiliam
(2010) define assessment broadly to include all activities that both teachers and
students undertake to gain information useful in improving teaching and learning
procedure.

Hence, teachers must identify how effective his teaching style and assessments
and classify which students are having difficulty and intervene to assist them in
overcoming these obstacles.

II. Statement of the Problem

This mini-research will help the researchers to determine the performance of

Grade 10 Sampaguita students in English subject during the Third Quarter of the
School Year 2021-2022.

Specifically, this study aims to determine the following:

1. What is the profile of the respondents?
2. What is the class average performance in English subject?
3. What is the 75% percentile?
4. What is the percentile rank of grades during the 3rd Quarter English
Performance?

III. Significance of the Study

The researchers may be able to identify students who need support and learning
intervention in this subject. This will further reveal whether or not the students in
Grade 10 Sampaguita class are having difficulty with English.

IV. Methodology

A. Research Design
As a quantitative research, this study will utilize documentary analysis in
order to conduct and collect necessary data.
B. Respondents
The participants of this study are the Grade 10 Sampaguita students at the
Lamb of God Special Education Academy.

C. Data Gathering Procedure

To gather necessary data, the following steps shall be adhered to:

Approval of Permission Letter to conduct the study. A formal letter will

be sent to the Junior High School Coordinator to ask permission to conduct the
study.

Request Consent Letter procedure. Upon the approval, another letter of

consent will be addressed to the assigned English teacher asking for permission
to use and obtain the grades of the participants. In acquiring the data, the teacher
has the option to not disclose the names of the students and will label only as
Student A to Z.

Retrieval Procedure. After the grades are provided, the researchers must
maintain confidentiality of the data and securely tabulate the grades using
statistical treatments.

D. Statistical Treatments
The following statistics will be used in the study:
 Mean
 Percentiles
 Percentile Rank
 Quartiles
 Deciles

(Attached a picture of your mean, percentile solutions here onwards.

Make sure to attached it in order)

V. Results and Findings

After using three (3) statistical treatments, the following findings are
derived from the results:

 The class has an average performance of 54.75 or 55% in English. (Mean)

 The percentile results reveal that 75% of the students (33) have a score of
less than or equal to 69 while 25% of them (11) have a score of greater
than or equal to 69. (Percentile)
 The percentile rank results reveal that 83% of the grades are less than the
cumulative frequency of 75, while 17% of the grades are greater than the
cumulative frequency of 75.

VI. Conclusion and Recommendation

Based on the results, the researchers conclude that the students of Grade 10
Sampaguita got a low mastery level of performance in English during the Third
Quarter of the School Year 2021-2022.

There are only few students passed the quarter, and most of the students got a
failing grades.

Hence, the researchers recommend that there is a need to improve in regards with
teaching approach specially in English subject.
This also suggests that the teacher should prepare intervention materials for the
83% students who failed to reach above 75% of the grade.

Lastly, the students should study more and watch video lessons in order to
improve their English performance.
