Rheumatism: - A conditions characterized by inflammation or pain in
muscles, joints, or fibrous tissue
Antirheumatics: - Are the agent which is used in the treatment of rheumatic
diseases to reduce pain and stiffness.

Biological Source
 Colchicum consists of dried ripe seeds and corms of Colchi-cum
autumnale Linn., belonging to family Liliaceae.

Chemical Constituents
 • The major chemical constituent of colchicum is colchicine.
• They also have demecolcine and alkaloids as chemical constituent.
• It have resin which is known as colchicoresin as chemical constituent.
• It contain fixed oil, glucose and starch as chemical constituent.

Uses: -
• The roots and seeds of colchicum have analgesic and antirheumatic properties.
• It also have emetic property.
• Colchicum is used to treat gout (too much uric acid crystallises and deposits in the
joints) and rheumatic disease.
• It is also used to treat leukaemia.
• Also used to treat ulcer.
