This is how to be a woman of the world

Feminist, artist Nikki Luna once again makes an expressive statement in behalf of women. She’s a
contemporary artist. She said in her works that “Crime doesn’t have to be bloody”. Maybe that’s why
her works are all white. Nikki Luna casts these women’s clothes in resin, creating a wardrobe that tells
the story of the violence done against them under regimes that traffic in abuse and misogyny. These

vestments are a memorial to the way they have responded and resisted; a statement stripped of its
fashion to lay bare the strength in vulnerability.

One of her inspirations is Judy M. Taguiwalo was arrested twice for protesting the Marcos dictatorship.
The first time, she was stripped naked and forced to sit on a block of ice while under custody. The
second time, in 1984, she was four months pregnant, and she gave birth to a daughter in Camp Crame.
During a confirmation hearing in May 2017, Sen. Tito Sotto alluded to Taguiwalo’s single motherhood as
“na-ano lang” (getting knocked up) to which she replied, “I teach women’s studies. We respect all kinds
of families and that includes solo parents.” This is how to be a woman of the world.

When I Saw Luna’s woks this is how I interpret it, we are women’s and as a woman we dress up to feel
empowered and confident on our own way. We have the rights to dress up as we want, Crop tops,
bikini, sexy short, pants, mini skirt, t-shirt and dresses etc. But women always receive cat calling by
wearing statement pieces. 95% of the women in the world get assaulted and raped every single day,
some victims wear pants ang long sleeves shirt. They are wearing no skin exposed clothes.

Other casualties are even younger. Unspeakable acts have been done to very young children, and in
empathy Luna casts her own daughter’s dress. Every mother feels the pain of another. This is how to be
a woman of the world.

I have watched this movie called the “Lovely-Bones” it’s a true story first it was a book then produced
into a movie. The rapist collects the victim’s hair and pictures and created a scrapbook or diary about his
victim’s. The youngest victim is 6yrs old. I also had a personal experience when I was 13 yrs. old. I almost
became raped victim. I was heading home around 8:30-9:00 p.m. from my friend’s house because it was
Fiesta. Our house is an alley and it was dark no street lights and no one is outside the streets. I
remember that when I stepped down on, he jeepney I already saw this motorcycle entered the same
street, as I was walking the motorcycle is going in my reversed way and almost trampled me with his
motor and his headlights were on, he stopped and asked me where is the nearest brgy. Hall, Since I was
so young that time, I entertained him. His face was covered with helmet and a mask then right after my
answer He said thank you and touched my private part down there. After that he left and I run so fast to
my house. I was so shocked and I was crying I’m not telling anyone about it. I think 1 week after I did.
Image I was wearing pants and t-shirt that time. Every since I had a trauma that I cannot explain but
somehow, I learned to cope to it and overcome it. This is how to be woman of the world.
