DIARY
What a memorable experience I
had. This work immersion gives me a
lot of oppurtunities. This helped me in
knowing what I am capable of and
what I am afraid of. There is a mixed
emotion of tiring but fun, because it is
nice meeting new people while
discovering things that are new to you.

I am now able to serve a lot of

customers and see a happy faces
whenever I served them with delicious
foods. The people around are so jolly. I
am glad I become part of this team
and part of this workplace.
HOW TO CONDUCT ONESELF
DURING WORK IMMERSION
Work immersions prepare students for the real world by training them
how to work in a company and eventually excel in a specific career. The school needs
to ensure that its students gain various competencies that would have these future
professionals ready for employment. It improves and builds new skills. Work
immersions will have students gain new skill sets and improve their existing
capabilities. It is also through work immersion that students get to discover
themselves and jumpstart their professional growth.
Experiential learning opportunities, including work immersions are a
key opportunity to explore career possibilities, gain hands-on experience and meet
“people in the field.” What you get out of this activity depends, at least in part, on
what you put into it. During the work immersion when interns are called upon to
perform a task, raise a hand. Show interest and enthusiasm for learning new material.
Or, if you learn about a project you would like to take on, do not wait for someone to
put out a call for interns. Go ahead and ask if you can work on it. Step out of your
“comfort zone”, volunteer for projects that will be challenging so you can gauge if you
have the aptitude to develop skills in those areas. Let the supervisor and others know
you take your role seriously. Your dress, timeliness and preparation will all impact
your success in your immersion. Work immersion gives one the opportunity to meet
other interns and employees.
Take advantage of being on the “inside” of an organization. Arrange
informational interviews with staff in other departments of interest to you. The more
individuals you can meet within the organization, the better your prospects of making
contact with someone who can assist when you are looking for full-time employment.
Employers view interns as a “breath of fresh air.” An intern can help them by
suggesting solutions to their problems. They want to hear ideas, but do not expect
them to jump on every suggestion. Pay attention to the rules, procedures and
expectations given to you in orientation and training. If you are given an employee or
intern handbook, read it and keep it with you for reference. Be prepared to work the
agreed upon number of hours. Arrive on time and do not leave early without
permission. If you are going to be absent or late, notify your supervisor as soon as
possible. Even if you have left a message, continue to contact the company until you
can speak to someone directly about your situation. If you are uncertain about the
dress code ask your supervisor. Pay careful attention to all forms of communication.
Answer emails with full sentences and proofread messages before they are sent. Use
professional language when speaking on the phone. Be careful when interacting with
the full-time employees, especially if they are acting inappropriately. Often, interns
will need to maintain a higher degree of professional conduct than some of the full-
time employees that they work with. Avoid office gossip and inappropriate
relationships with coworkers. Lastly, treat everyone in the organization with respect
including administrative support staff, building and maintenance staff and fellow
interns.
NARRATIVE REPORT

The work immersion program, provides students “real

workplace” experience, giving students a set of
technical-vocational and livelihood skills that can help
them make more informed career choices and improve
their employment prospects. Work Immersion is a part
of the Senior High School Curriculum that has 80 hours
and includes actual works or “hands-on” experience for
enhancing the students skill and capabilities. It could be
a total comparison for a real job or ‘simulated’.

The days I spent during my work immersion has been

the most memorable I have done so far during my senior
years. I do work at my aunts business but much different
during my work immersion because we've catered food
and services to our customers. My skills in
communication, problem solving, listening, team work,
time management and creativity somehow improved I
can say.

Therefore, this work immersion proved that students

learn the 'real workplace' during the time period which
can help them see what skills and capabilities they
acquire the workplace and in determining their future
endeavors.
EXPECTATION

I expect that this time I will be doing a lot of

activities and events that will be challenging
and fun. These activities or events or work will
help me learn new things that will improve my
skills and help me know more myself in a
working place.

On the other hand, I expect that my co-workers

are accomodating, understanding and a friendly
ones that will help me throughout the time. I
also expect that the owners are good in handling
their business.

This may not be easy for me because I know

there will be a lot of new things I will be facing
most especially in handling customers and
service but I will keep in mind my goals and
dreams and the reasons why I am here.
REFLECTION
Experience is the best teacher, that's what most people
say. I indeed agree to that, because as I undergo my
work immersion, I do learn a lot of new things in my
experience. Those things give me knowledge and deep
understanding avout how work and things be done
accordingly. We were able to serve people in catering
services and in the restaurant.

Waking up early to go to work is the first thing I

learned that is most important because time is gold,
time is precious to everyone especially in the business
world. We do work fast to cater everyone's need.

To my experience I learned that relationship to the

owner, staff or co-worker and to customers really is
necessary because that would make things go
smoothly. If you established good relationship to
everyone then its not hard for you to communicate to
them and give them the best service they deseved. At
the end of the day, all those things you did would go
back to you and if you do good things then it will
payback at time, just be patient.

Thus, this whole experience is one of the best because not

only that I learned nee things about work but I am able to
build relationship to people which I think is necessary in
everyone's lives.
