WHO SHOULD I TELL?

(CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE)

Child sexual abuse also known as child molestation is a form of abuse in which adult or
older adolescent uses a child for sexual stimulation. It could involve touching the child in
the wrong places, indecent exposure of private parts to the child or engaging the child in
sexual activities.
This happen in the school, at home, in the neighborhood or any other setting. It mostly
happens to us with people we know and sometimes are close to, so who do we tell when
such things happen? Good touch VS Bad touch: first of all, we must be able to know
which touch is appropriate and which is not. Appropriate touch could be holding of
hands, occasional hugs, tickles etc. Inappropriate touches are any kin time someone
touches your private parts in a way that makes you confused, sad or uncomfortable, or
put their hands under your shirt or pants and above all doesn’t want you to tell anyone or
only does it when no one is there.

When this happens; what should you do?

 First of all, run from the person and get to safety
 Tell mummy and daddy immediately, there are no secrets where mummy and
daddy are concerned
 If they are unavailable, tell another adult you trust; grand ma, grand pa, a teacher
in school or in church
 Even if they don’t believe you, keep telling until someone hears you
 Refuse to be alone around the person who touches you inappropriately
 Know that there is punishments for sex offenders in Nigeria, so don’t be afraid of
telling them whoever that person might be

What happens if I keep quiet?

If you do not report such bad behaviors to anyone, it will not stop but will continue and
eventually the person will engage you in sexual activity which is wrong everywhere.

What does the Bible say?

1 peter 2:11 – that we should abstain from sinful desires that war against our soul.
Ephesians 5:3 – say sexual immorality must not be mentioned among children of God
because it is improper of Gods people
1 Corinthians 6:18 – Flee sexual immorality….

Conclusion
Your body belongs to you and only you, so do not allow anyone misuse it for their own
sinful desire. Report anyone that touches you in a way that makes you uncomfortable not
minding who the person is or how close he/she is to your family, report the person even if
that person is ME (written by: Alang Isandu).
