JOB DESCRIPTION
Clinical Therapist
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director, the Clinical Therapist provides therapeutic counseling
services within the Tri-County Area for adult victims/witnesses of domestic violence virtually and in person.
Individual Therapy
Provides individual assessments to determine treatment needs related to domestic violence.
Provides weekly individual therapy sessions to established clients
Works closely with Community Advocates to make appropriate referrals.
Provides follow-up and support services to terminated clients as needed.
Group Counseling
Conducts weekly Therapeutic Groups in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties.
Community Awareness
Develops linkages with community mental health organizations and identifies a contact person within
each organization to enhance the resolution of problems that adults and children are experiencing.
Participates in and conducts speaking engagements, health fairs, workshops, etc. with other staff and
volunteers.
Crisis Intervention
Participates in the system for intake and emergency backup, if necessary, and to answer questions on
staffing, policies, and procedures.
Victim Advocacy
Provides advocacy services to community clients
Grant Implementation
Implements all grant-related tasks and responsibilities with accuracy and efficiency to the standards
written in the grant.
Completes detailed reports as required by the granting organization.
Clinical Therapist
Other Duties & Responsibilities
Prepares detailed descriptive progress reports and other casework rendered and their outcome.
Document all sessions and groups completely within 48 hours of service provided
Maintain regular contact with Clinical Director and immediately report any potentially dangerous client
or security issues identified during group.
Fulfill mandated reporter duties in the event that suicidality, homicidality or child abuse is revealed by
client.
Participate in staff meetings and case management meeting when necessary
Participate in periodic in-services and/or advanced training/workshops provided by MSH.
Acquire and maintain Victim Service Provider License
Qualifications
Master’s degree in social work or counseling field
Excellent listening and communication skills.
Nonjudgmental attitude and ability to establish an ethical, non-coercive, confidential environment to
facilitate group sharing.
Ability to remain calm in a crisis situation and exercise sound judgment in assessing security threats.
Excellent documentation skills.
Highly dependable and reliable.
Able to commit to agreed-upon schedule for group facilitation.
Experience working with adult victims of abuse
Requirements
Complete On Boarding Training.
Complete Outreach Training class
Learn community resources and referrals to other organizations.
Competent clinical skills
Counseling and group facilitation skills
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout Tri-County
