Thirteen

Colonies were once the colonies of the British Empire in North America. The colonies were

started for several reasons. Some people thought they could raise a lot of money because of
new American goods not found in Europe, such as tobacco. Others have left from Europe to
find religious freedom or simply to start a new one. There are some who want to be self-manager
and change things they don't like while in England. The first colony was Virginia that began in 1607
in Jamestown. The last of the thirteen colonies was Georgia in 1732.

The Thirteen Colony of the United States (recorded from north to south) is as follows:

1. Massachusetts
2. New Hampshire
3. Rhode Island
4. Connecticut
5. New York
6. New Jersey
7. Pennsylvania
8. Delaware
9. Maryland
10. Virginia
11. North Carolina
12. South Carolina
13. Georgia
