COMPANY OVERVIEW

4

first to receive an 'in principle' approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to
set up a bank in the private sector, as part of the RBI's liberalization of the Indian
Banking Industry in 1994. The bank was incorporated in August 1994 in the name
of 'HDFC Bank Limited', with its registered office in Mumbai, India. HDFC Bank
commenced operations as a Scheduled Commercial Bank in January 1995. . HDFC
Bank is the fifth or sixth largest bank in India by assets and the second largest bank

OBJECTIVE
JOB SATISFACTION is an individual’s general attitude towards his or her job.
Job satisfaction is a Positive feeling about one’s job resulting from an
evaluation of its characteristics. It is a hybrid concept that has attracted
contributions from a no of related disciplinary perspective mainly esteemed from
psychology …there two types of job satisfaction which are based on the level of
employees' feelings regarding their jobs.  The first, and most studied, is global job
satisfaction, which refers to employees' overall feelings about their jobs the second
is job facet satisfaction, which refers to feelings about specific job aspects, such as
salary, benefits, and the quality of relationships with one's co-workers.

The two most widely used approaches are –

 A Single Global Rating Method

 A Summation Score Method ( FACET RATING)

Single Global Rating Method:

In this method, the overall level of job satisfaction is measured. This is done by
using one simple question like ‘Overall how satisfied are you with your job? The
5
employee has to usually respond to this question on five-point scale. The employee
has to select any number between 1 to 5 depending upon how strongly he agree or
disagree. Single Global Rating is not time consuming .The manager can use his
valuable time to look into other workplace issues and problems

Summation Score Method :

This is more sophisticated & lengthy method of job satisfaction. In this method:

 The key elements of jobs are identified. For e.g. supervision, nature of work,
pay, promotion, opportunities etc.
 The employee is then asked to rate his feelings for each of the job elements
on a standardized scale.
 The researchers then add up the ratings on each of the facets to obtain the
overall job satisfaction score.

Summation score method helps the managers identify the factors with which
employees are dissatisfied so that they can take quick corrective actions.

Largely, the Impact of Job Satisfaction on Employee’s Performance

affects the following

6
Satisfaction and Productivity
 Satisfied workers aren’t necessarily more productive.

 Worker productivity is higher in organizations with more satisfied

workers.

Satisfaction and Absenteeism

 Satisfied employees have fewer avoidable absences.

Satisfaction and Turnover

 Satisfied employees are less likely to quit.

 Organizations take actions to cultivate high performers and to weed

out lower performers from the organization
7
With this project, I have learnt the attitude of employees towards their job & their
way of expressing their interest towards their work and whether they are satisfied
or dissatisfied with their jobs or not… which we get to know through

“SUMMATION SCORE METHOD”

to learn about the company’s profile.

The data was collected from a sample of 11 employees of HDFC BANK of the
HR department. The questionnaire consists of 11 close ended questions which
were individually filled by the employees.

Findings
The survey conducted at Hdfc bank demonstrates the different level of job
satisfaction possessed by the employees. A Summation Score Method of
measuring Job Satisfaction was very useful way of doing survey as it explained the
key elements in a job.

The key elements in a job are –

 Nature of Work
 Supervision

21
 Present Pay
 Promotion Opportunities
 Relations with co – workers

The Effect of Job Satisfaction on Employee’s Performance was also asked to the
employees to know their viewpoints. Majority of the employees agreed that the
satisfactory level affects their performance at work.

Employees were also asked their way of expressing dissatisfaction.

Dissatisfaction can be expressed in a number of ways as follows-

 Leave the organization

 Voice against the wrong
 Remain Loyal to the Company
 Neglect the situation

From the above findings we have seen that the company shares a very healthy
relationship with its employees. Thus it proves that the employee expectations are
met by the management.

Employees are satisfied with good status, good salary, and opportunity to learn n
good working atmosphere, future growth opportunities, job security, and good
incentives.

22
CONCLUSION

Most of the respondents were between the age group of 26-36. This shows
that people joining their young age…they are performing well in their
respective work assigned to them… report personally took out from HR
MANAGER
1. No of Male & Female employees were mostly equal in number

2. Work timings and culture also play an equally important role in energising
the employee while on the work floor

3. Employees also said that maintaining close professional relationship with

the colleagues is very important. This means company believed in team
work and they ensure that team spirit is maintained for effective
organizational goal achievement.

4. Half of the employees from the Hr department said that their suggestions
were taken in a very positive way and whenever needed it was applied also
for the good of the organization.

5. Many employees were learning new things and were happy about it. This
shows it is adding to their knowledge, skill and they feel a sense of
contentment towards the job.

Thus one can conclude saying that in HDFC BANK employee’s level of job
satisfaction is GOOD AND UP TO THE MARK AS REQUIRED FOR THE GOOD
OF THE ORGANISATION with good status, good salary, and opportunity to learn

23
new things, good working conditions, good remuneration, good growth
opportunities, job security, and good incentives.

SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

1. The company should give proper timely reward to their employees.

2. Training the employees in case if needed they are finding any difficultly to
cope up with work

3. Targets should be more achievable so that stress levels can be reduced

among employees which will result in better job satisfaction.
