Nose Day last week - I am delighted
that again we have raised a wonderful
amount for a worthwhile charity - this
time £345.66. I am delighted that our
children are keen to support charities and we are
able to support in our own small way.
Parents' Meetings
It was also great to
welcome you back
into school to meet
with staff. The vast
majority of parents
chose to have a face-
to-face meeting,
something I would like
to continue with in the
future. Following
feedback, I would like to try to continue to offer a
remote meeting as this does suit some families. Also
following feedback, we will arrange future meetings a
little later in the day to fit around your working days.
It is not too late to take part in our survey by pointing
your camera to this QR code. I will be able to share
the results of the survey in the coming weeks.
Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel
What a great week so far -
more and more families are
choosing an active way to get
to school - I know it not
possible or easy for all our
families. The weather has certainly helped to
encourage this - even if you can try once a week, this
will be a great choice. We are recording all our active
journeys on Sustrans website - I wonder where we
will appear on the national or local league table?!
Despite having a puncture one day, I was not put off
and I will cycle when I can too. Today I even saw two
children on roller blades!
PE Kits and School Uniform
Following COVID times, we
maintained the measure for
children coming into school
wearing their PE kits on PE days.
This has saved a lot of time in school so that children
can undertake more PE. I understand that a number
of families also feel this has saved some money as
less PE kit is needed. As we are getting warmer
weather, I respectfully ask that children wear the
correct PE kits – ‘skins’ or base layers are not part of
the PE kit. School sweatshirts can be worn, as part of
PE kits.
School Lunches
We have listened to requests from children; Donna
and I have made some changes to the menus for the
Summer Term. I am excited that we are now offering
2 days a week which are 'meat-free' - we will be
substituting meat for other proteins. Each day, jacket
potatoes are offered and most days have a sandwich
choice. Staff will encourage the children to have a hot
meal where possible, but the options are there to
make sure the children have a nutritional meal in
school. Our meals follow the nutritional guidance
from the Government that control the types of food
and how it is cooked. We are proud of what we can
offer children, they are delicious meals - I ask that as
many children as possible take up the offer of a meal
- just £2.40 a day. We will soon
be asking your opinions in a
survey - please watch out for
another QR code!
Parking in and around the Village Car Park
I tried to give advice about respectful parking and use
of the public car park near
school. Unfortunately, our
local PCSO had had to put
tickets on some cars where
they were found to be parked
in dangerous positions. Please
be aware that dangerous
parking can lead to additional dangers to our
children.
Gala Day
This community event is fast approaching; this year,
the date has been arranged to coincide with the
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which is around our Whit
half term holiday. The PTA would like to be
represented at the Gala Day again this year and are
 looking for your
support. I
appreciate that
some families may
take advantage of
the bank holiday
weekend to take an
extended holiday –
but if you are at
home, please pledge your support – you can contact

Clubs
We are in the process of finalising the clubs that will
be on offer for the Summer Term. We are trying to
ensure that there is a balance of clubs for all year
groups, that there are some
free ones and that they
accommodate the interests of
the children. You will get
further information shortly
and can sign up through School Gateway.
Easter Celebrations
With Easter not far away, St John's Church have very
kindly bought a short story for children from Y2 to Y6.
The books tell the story of The Last Supper, the
sadness of Jesus's death and the miracle of His
resurrection. I appreciate that not all our families
practice a Christain faith, but I believe it is important
for the children to understand some of the reasons
why we have Easter Eggs, hot cross buns and many of
the events in our culture. Thank you to our friends at
the Church. The PTA will be holding an Easter Egg
hunt at the end of term also.
Visit from Sikh community
Within our RE curriculum
and school ethos, we firmly
believe it is important to
celebrate all the wonderful
aspects of our British
culture. A couple of weeks
ago, Year 5 and Year 6 had a
visit from a practicing Sikh who was able to share
fascinating information about his beliefs. He did this
in a sensitive, informative and lively way and the
children really enjoyed their sessions.
Attendance procedures
Just a reminder that if you child is going to be absent
from school please could you call the absence report
line on the school office number 01606 883 298.
Please leave a message with the following
information:
 Name
 Class
 Reason for absence
 Return date (for example, if your child is sick
you will know that they will return 48 hours
after the last episode of illness.)
Whilst it is also helpful to send
an email or pass on a verbal
message to members of staff
in the morning, it is essential
that you still leave this
message also so that the
registers can be updated in a
timely manner – thank you in advance for your
understanding.
