OLYMPIA COLLEG E SUPPORTS EARTH HOUR

For the second year consecutively, Olympia College Ipoh has observed the Earth Hour. Celebrated on 27
March 2010, Olympia College, Ipoh switched off all lights in answering the global call to action to every
individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take
responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. This year, over 100 students
and friends turned up at the college to celebrate the event.

Earth Hour’s mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth's natural environment and build a future
where people live in harmony with nature. Olympia College, Ipoh is committed in organizing this as part
of it’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to the community and the world.

To make it a little more special than the year before, Olympia Ipoh switched off at 8 pm, instead of 8:30
pm worldwide, until 9.30 pm. For the one and half hours, Olympia operated as usual in candlelight.

No plastic were utilized, snacks and drinks was served on paper plates and cups only. The college also
offered prospects who registered during Earth Hour a discount of RM 200 off tuition fees.

In addition, Olympia College, Ipoh campus also presented trees to five Secondary Schools in Ipoh namely
SMK ACS, SMK Sam Tet, SMK Anderson, SMK St Michael’s and SMK Tarcisian Convent, to be
planted in their school compounds.

According to the Principal, Ms Cindy Chong Evans “Olympia College has a commitment to educate
young minds not only about marketing, economics, IT or hotel management, but also how each one of us
can do their bit to raise environmental awareness on the need for energy saving among its staff and
students as well as uphold each individual’s social responsibility.”

“All Malaysians should support the initiative by switching off the lights in their homes or offices at the
given hour and Olympia College, as a caring corporate citizen want to send a message that we are serious
about saving Mother Earth.” she stressed.

“Research has shown that every additional mature tree planted can absorb roughly 48 pounds of CO2 a
year. The tree in turn releases enough oxygen to sustain two human beings. “Therefore, we wanted to
encourage more people to plant more trees, and we started the ball rolling by presenting trees to the
schools.” she added
