The importance of research in Nursing
Nursing research has a huge impact on present and future professional nursing practice,
making it an important part of the training process. Nursing research is important to
professional nursing practice, and its inclusion in undergraduate nursing students cannot be
overstated. Students can only begin to grasp the notion and value of nursing research through
exposure and experience. Nurse researchers undertake studies who have a substantial impact
on the healthcare system in the United States. Some of these studies are mentioned in The
National Institute of Nursing Research's report "10 Landmark Nursing Research Studies." One
study, for example, explores the connections between childhood obesity and cardiovascular
disease. Dr. Joanne Harrell, a nurse researcher, led a team that looked at 1,200 students
across the state. They taught a control group of children about a heart-healthy lifestyle over
eight weeks, including topics such as food, exercise, and the risks of smoking. The children in
the control group augmented their awareness of a healthy lifestyle after eight weeks. Lower
cholesterol and body fat, increased aerobic power, and a smaller rise in diastolic blood
pressure were some of the physiological symptoms they observed. Other studies mentioned in
the article were concerned with health issues that affect a large number of people. Some of
them include lowering blood pressure in inner-city African-American men, improving hospital
outcomes for older patients, and learning how to aid low-income women and their children
through home visits.

Nursing research must be the foundation of comprehensive, evidence-based clinical practice

because nursing students are the future members of the nursing profession, and for the
profession to advance, nursing research must be the foundation of comprehensive, evidence-
based clinical practice. This could only happen as a result of increasing exposure to nursing
research. As a result, future members of the nursing profession must be exposed to, develop
an understanding for, and become actively involved in nursing research in order to incorporate
the findings into the delivery of optimal professional nursing practice.
