Interactive Walkthrough to the National Gallery (National Gallery Guide - NGG)

Introduction

The National Gallery Guide (NGG) will be a mobile application that allows the user to
access navigational information regarding the National Gallery which is located in London,
England. Users will be able to utilize the application for an interactive walkthrough of the
building, showcasing the directions, gallery rooms, amenities and more. Other features would be
providing the general layout of the building and information pertaining to events or attractions.

Instead of using physical map pamphlets or directions, users can download and use the
National Gallery Guide application for a more convenient alternative to navigate the building.
The application would also provide brief information regarding the art that is displayed, for users
to read and decide if they are interested in visiting the rooms.
Problem Statement

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, there were a lot of tourists that often visited the art
gallery, the tourists were coming from different places or countries. There is a National Gallery
that is located in London, which attracts a lot of people that causes the National Gallery to
become a very crowded place. After the Covid-19 has occurred, there are a lot of places
restricting the total number of people within a small area or room to prevent the spread of virus.
Besides, to prevent the spread of virus and wastage of paper, people nowadays are avoiding the
use of flyers. Furthermore, distributing flyers is a very traditional way and many people who
receive the flyers either will ignore it or litter it around without even looking at it, this has caused
a serious problem that even affects the cleanliness of the environment itself.
Application Objectives

● Provide an interactive and navigational guide of the National Gallery for visitors or any
interested tourists
● Promote and attract more tourists for the National Gallery through an online platform by
creating a free mobile application
● Provide educational or historical information regarding the building and collections of art
that is displayed in the gallery.
● Provide a platform to promote any events or activities of the gallery through the
application
● Enhance the navigational experience of visitors by providing access to an interactive
layout of the building
Solution

In order to address the issues stated in the problem statement, we will create and design
an interactive prototype as a walkthrough to the National Gallery for the tourists. The prototype
will be created for the tourists to have a quick look at the National Gallery before they visit the
place. Besides, the prototype will also act as the mapping platform for the tourists to know where
they are and how to get to another area of the building. The application consists of a QR code
scanner for the tourists to scan the QR code provided in the building so the application can know
where they are, this is the application cannot get the accurate position of the tourist inside the
National Gallery by using the phone location function.
