Name: Katie Page

Year & Semester: Fall 2021
School in which you interned: Jackling Elementary

Participate in multiple meetings of more than one school-based learning team.

I have had the opportunity to participate in many Professional Learning Communities in

the Elementary setting. At the start of the year I received training on the true purpose
behind a PLC and gained a better understanding for the ways they can be useful and
essential in a school for students to be successful. My mentor principal gave instruction
on the DuFour PLC Model. This helped me to create the foundational understanding that
within a school we do not “do” PLCs, but we “are” a PLC. I feel that I was really able to
take this and use it to guide my actions as I participated in various teams.

I worked in a grade level team, on the team for PBIS, FACE (family and community
engagement) team, and I was part of the leadership team for student council. I have
learned several ways to make collaboration in teams more effective. I am working on
developing skills to allow others to problem solve and offer insights without taking
control of the conversation. This is a skill that I will need to be constantly developing and
I know that I will continue to work on it in the elementary and secondary setting for the
remainder of the year.
