Subject: Luella High School Media Center Program Evaluation

Date: March 24, 2022

Dear Mr. Smith,

I recently had the chance to evaluate the Luella High School Media Center using the GA
DOE 2012 Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric. The analysis after completing
the rubric resulted in 4 basic areas, 13 proficient areas, and 2 exemplars.

I collaborated with the current Media Specialist Ms. Scoggins about action plans that will
help improve the areas of weakness. The most considerable concern was trying to
improve traffic in the library both from teachers and from students. One of the action
plan steps is to add an appointment scheduler where teachers, students, and parents
will be able to schedule a time to either use the library or receive instructional
assistance from Ms. Scoggins in the classroom. This step aims to make the library more
accessible and emphasize the resources that the library can offer.

The most significant issue noted while completing the rubric is the lack of a media
paraprofessional. Ms. Scoggins has to perform other duties daily that are very
time-consuming. These duties prevent Ms. Scoggins from being able to go to
classrooms to provide instructional support. The lack of time also is detrimental in being
able to offer events and activities that would help increase student traffic and interest in
the library. Another part of the action plan would be to hire a media paraprofessional to
free up Ms. Scoggins’s time so that she may begin hosting book clubs, book cafes, and
other activities.

By increasing collaboration between teachers and Ms. Scoggins, getting a qualified

paraprofessional in the media center, and hosting monthly events, we should see
growth in our goal areas and become an exemplary library.

Sincerely,

Heather Hagood
