In our times today especially on this season of Pandemic, we are really relevant
to know and learn how to differentiate fact and opinion. There are many reasons on why
we need it especially for us students. But first, what is the definition of fact and opinion?
Fact is generally referring to something that is true and can be verified as such. That is,
a fact is something that can be proven to be true. On the other hand, opinion refers to a
personal belief. It relates to how someone feels about something. Others may agree or
disagree with an opinion, but they cannot prove or disprove it. This is what defines it as
opinion.

For us youth, why we should learn how to differentiate these two features? Well,
there are many reasons of it. As a student, we are gaining new knowledge day by day.
But this knowledge could be fact or maybe an opinion. In this situation, the answer to
the question why youth is important to learn fact and opinion can be identified. How?
For example, a student heard some news. How can she say that the statement is fact or
opinion if she didn’t know how to differentiate it? So I can say learning how to
differentiate these two features are important because it would benefit for us.

The ability to distinguish between fact and opinion helps us students develop our
critical and analytical skills in both their reading and their listening. For example, a
student will conduct research. He/she will look for some statement on internet to support
his/her research. Knowing what is fact and opinion can help to make his/her study be
successful. It is most important in higher order of thinking skills that students need to
improve especially on their academic performance. This skill is particularly important
because of the truths circulating through Internet and website propaganda that too
many people take as fact because it is written, when, in reality, it is merely opinion.
Being part of youth today, we must be aware for statements that we are looking for or
we heard from others. This will help us to be a better students and also to increase our
ability in making such decisions. Through learning how to differentiate fact and opinion,
we can be better as youth.
