The beginning of HU was laid four
decades ago in the mid-1970s with the
establishment of 'Awassa College of
Agriculture' /ACA/ in 1976 under the
auspices of Addis Ababa University
according to the GC. Yet, HU has
become a full-fledged university, in
the country, at the turn of the 21 st
century. Specifically, the name HU
was coined in 2000, following the
fusion of ACA with two other
colleges, namely 'Wondo Genet
College of Forestry' /WCF/
(established in 1978) and 'Dilla
College of Teacher Education &
Health Sciences’ /DCTEHS/
(established in 1996). However, the
three colleges: ACA, WCF and
DCTEHS were collectively known as
'Debub University' for less than a
decade before formation of HU.
Recently, HU is selected to be one of
the few Research Universities in the
Nation. The overall mission of HU is
to produce skilled and competent
graduates and serve the community by
providing relevant and quality
education, conducting research, and
transferring technology. Besides, HU
has a beautiful stadium that can host
football matches at a national level
and it is serving the university as a
special place for graduation ceremony.

works, rigorous research and technology transfer
activities to foster social and economic
development of the country.

Within its colleges and institutes, HU runs 102 undergraduate, 122 postgraduate
and 22 PhD programs and about 44,000 students are studying on Regular and
Continuing education. The total number of the 2021 graduates is above 8,000 of
all
programs. According to the recent figures declared at the end of 2012/3 fiscal
year,
HU has 2235 academic staff and 8150 administrative staff & health professionals
as
a whole.

National, Regional and/or International Collaboration

 HU has active 141 partnerships and collaboration with various national and

international organizations, research institutes, and universities with at the

objective of building HU's capacity in education, research and community

services. There are more than 100 MOUs signed with different global

institutions, and currently, 61 ongoing collaborative projects.   

ዳራ፣ ወቅታዊ ሁኔታ

ሀዋሳ ዩኒቨርሲቲ (ሀዩ) በዚህ መጠሪያ ከመታወቁ በፊት የአዋሳ እርሻ ኮሌጅ ይባል እንደ
ነበርና በኋላም የወንዶ ገነት ደን ኮሌጅ እና የዲላ መምህራን ትምህርትና ጤና ሳይንስ
ኮሌጅ ተብሎ በተለያዩ ካምፓሶች ይታወቅ ነበር፡፡ በኋላም ሦስቱንም በሚያጠቃልል
ደቡብ ዩኒቨርሲቲ በሚል ስያሜ ለዐሠርት ዓመታት ቢቆይም በ 1993 ዓ.ም አሁን
የሚጠራበትን ስያሜ ማግኘቱን ታሪክ ያስረዳል፡፡

በቅርቡ ደግሞ በአዲስ ሪፎርም መነሻ በሀገሪቱ የምርምር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተብለው ከተፈረጁ
ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች መካከል አንዱ ሆኖ በመገኘቱ በዕውቀትና በክህሎት የዳበሩ በዓለም አቀፍ
ደረጃ ተወዳዳሪ ምሩቃንን የማፍራት ተልዕኮ በመሰነቅ ተመጣጣኝና ጥራት ያለውን
ትምህርት በማቅረብ፣ ምርምሮችን በማካሄድ እና የቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግርን በማድረግ
ማህበረሰቡን በማገልገል ላይ ይገኛል፡፡ ለዚህም ምቹ አከባቢን ለመፍጠር ለቢሮዎች፣
ለመማሪያ፣ ለላቦራቶሪ እና ለሕክምና የሚሆኑ ግንባታዎችን ከማከናወኑም በላይ
ለአዕምሮና ለአካል ብቃት እንዲሁም ለመዝናኛ የሚያገለግል በቅርቡም የኢትዮጵያን
ፕርሚየር ሊግ የእግር ኳስ ጨዋታዎች ውድድር ለማስተናገድ የቻለን በቂ አቅም ያለውን
ውብ ስታዲዬም ገንብቶ ለአገልግሎት በማብቃቱ ስታዲዬሙ የተማሪዎች ምረቃን በዓል
ለማክበር ጭምር በመሆን ዘርፈ ብዙ ግልጋሎትን በመስጠት ላይ ይገኛል፡፡
ራዕዩ፡- በ 2022 ዓ.ም ከምሥራቅ አፍሪካ ሀገራት ከሚገኙ ምርጥ የምርምር
ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች አንዱ ሆኖ መገኘት

ግቢዎች፣ ኮሌጆች እና ኢንስቲትዩቶች/ተቋማት

ሀዩ 8 ኮሌጆች እና 3 ተቋማት ያሉት ሲሆን በ 7 ግቢዎች በመደራጀት መማር ማስተማር

እና የምርምር ተግባራት ይከናወንበታል፡፡ ዋናው ግቢ በሀዋሳ ከተማ ውስጥ ከአዲስ አበባ
ወደ ሙያሌ በተዘረጋው ዋና አገር አቋራጭ መንገድ ወዲያ ከኢንዱስትሪያል ፓርክ ጎን
የሚገኝ ሲሆን የትምህርት፣ የሕግና ገቨርናንስ፣ የተፈጥሮና ኮምፒቴሽናል ሳይንስ እና
ማህበራዊ ሳንይስና ስነሰብ ኮሌጆችን እንደሁም የፖሊሲና ልማት ምርምር እና የሲዳማ
ጥናት ተቋማትን (3 ኮሌጆችንና 2 ተቋማትን) ይዞ የተደራጀ ካምፓስ ነው፡፡ የቴክኖሎጂ
ግቢ ከዋናው ግቢ ቀጥሎ ከዋናው ግቢ ጋር በድልድይ ተገናኝቶ የሚገኝ ከ 10 ሺህ
የሚበልጡ የቅድመና ድህረ ምረቃ ተማሪዎችን የያዘ ኢንስቲትዩት ነው፡፡ የግብርና ኮሌጅ
ግቢ የጥንት ሆኖ በሀዋሳ ከተማ መሀል ለሐይቁ ቅርብ ቦታ ላይ የሚገኝ በተለምዶ አግሪ
ካምፓስ ተብሎ የሚጠራ ግቢ ነው፡፡ በሀዋሳ ከተማ ከሚገኙት አንዱ የሕክምናና ጤና
ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ ሲሆን ከከተማው በስተምዕራብ ከሐይቁ ጋር ተዋስኖ የሚገኝና ለአከባቢው
ማህበረሰብ የሕክምና አገልግሎት እየሰተጠ የሚገኘውን ሪፌራል ሆስፒታል የያዘ ካምፓስ
ነው፡፡

ከሀዋሳ ከተማ ወጣ ብለው የሚገኙ 3 ካምፓሶች ይገኛሉ፡፡ ከነዚህ መካከል ከሀዋሳ በቅርብ
ርቀት ላይ 25 ኪሜ ርቆ የሚገኘው የወንዶገነት ካምፓስ ሲሆን የደንና የተፈጥሮ ሀብት
ኮሌጅ በመባል ይታወቃል፡፡ በሁለት በኩል ወደ ግቢው መሄድ የሚቻል ሲሆን አንደኛው
በሻሸመኔ ከተማ በኩል ሆኖ ሌላኛው ከሀዋሳ ከተማ በይርጋለም መውጫ ወንዶ ማዞሪያ
ተብሎ በሚታወቅበት ቦታ በኩል ነው፡፡ ሌላው በ 40 ኪሜ ርቀት ላይ በጥንቷ ይርጋለም
ከተማና በይርጋለም ሪፌራል ሆስፒታል አጠገብ የሚገኝ የቢዝነስና ኢኮኖሚክስ ኮሌጅ
አዋዳ ካምፓስ ነው፡፡ ሌላኛውና የመጨረሻው ደግሞ ከዋናው ግቢ በ 137 ኪሜ ርቆ
የሚገኘው ዳዬ ካምፓስ ሲሆን 6 ፕሮግራሞችን ከፍቶ በመጀመር በ 2011 ዓ.ም
የተመሠረተ ግቢ ነው፡፡

የምረቃ ፕሮግራሞች፣ ተማሪዎች፣ መምህራን እና የአስተዳደር ሠራተኞች

ሀዩ ትምህርት የሚሰጥባቸውና ምርምር የሚያደርግባቸው በአጠቃላይ 246 የቅድመና
ድህረ ምረቃ ፕሮግራሞች ያሉት ሲሆን 102 ቱ የመጀመሪያ ድግሪ፣ 122 ቱ የማስተርስ
እና 22 ቱ የፒኤችዲ ፕሮግራሞች ሆነው ወደ 44 ሺህ የሚጠጉ ተማሪዎችን ማስተናገድ
የቻለ ነባር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ነው፡፡ በ 2013 የትምህርት ዘመን 8232 ያህል ተማሪዎችን
ለማስመረቅ በዝግጅት ሂደት ላይ ይገኛል፡፡ በአሁኑ ጊዜ በአጠቃላይ 2235 የሚሆኑ የሀገር
ውስጥና የውጪ መምህራን ያሉ ሲሆን 8150 የአስተዳደር ሠራተኞችና የጤና
ባለሙያዎች በዩኒቨርሲቲው ይገኛሉ፡፡

ሀገር በቀልና ዓለም አቀፍ ትብብሮች

ሀዩ የመማር፣ የመመራመርና የማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ላይ ያለመ ከተለያዩ የሀገር
ውስጥና የሀገር ውጪ ተቋማት፣ ድርጅቶች እና ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ጋር 141 ትስስሮችን
የፈጠረ ከመሆኑም በላይ ከ 100 የሚበልጡ ስምምነቶችን በመፈራረም 61 የትብብር
ፕሮጀክቶችን በማራመድ የምርምር ሂደቱን እየደገፈና የአከባቢውን ህብረተሰብ ችግሮች
እየፈታ ሥራ ላይ ይገኛል፡፡
