Oil sticks, oil-based paint markers, spray paint, and house paint are
among the materials Korine used. He also used VHS tapes and their boxes as
surfaces for painting. These obsolete items are painted over with expressive
movements and pop cult icons. Korine makes loosely sequential visuals that mimic
the leitmotifs of his films using squeegees, household paint, steak knives, and
masking tape instead of typical painting tools like brushes and canvas. Variations
emerge from the geometric rows of painted pictures, which resemble a patchwork
quilt.
