Tips
on
learning
German
and
reducing
your
accent
1.
Surround
yourself
with
the
German
language
Immerse
yourself
in
the
language
Read
German
newspapers
and
simple
books.
This
will
help
you
to
expand
your
vocabulary.
Select
German
as
the
setting
on
your
smartphone,
tablet
or
laptop.
Try
to
think
in
German
every
day!
2.
Practice
listening
Train
your
hearing
to
the
sound
of
the
German
language
Listen
to
German
as
much
as
you
can!
Listen
to
German
radio,
podcasts
or
German
music
every
day.
Listen
carefully
when
German
native
speakers
speak
either
in-‐person
or
in
films
or
TV
shows.
3.
Practice
speaking
Speaking
is
the
most
effective
way
to
learn
German
and
improve
your
pronunciation
Repeat German words and phrases when you hear them for the first time.
Take
every
opportunity
to
talk
with
native
speakers
and
let
them
correct
you
(even
ask
them
to
do
so
in
cases
they
might
feel
it
would
be
rude).
Talk
to
German
friends,
take
private
lessons
with
a
teacher
or
look
for
a
tandem
partner.
Talk
to
yourself
in
German
at
home
or
on
walks;
out
loud
when
possible.
By
doing
this
you
can
practice
the
pronunciation,
the
formation
of
sentences
and
you
will
notice
which
words
you
are
missing.
Do
regular
pronunciation
training:
Work
on
sounds
that
are
difficult
for
you.
Improve
your
articulation,
word
and
sentence
accent.
Always learn the opposite of a new adjective (groß <-‐> klein).
Learn
with
topics
that
are
important
to
you
and
that
really
interest
you:
Philosophy,
sports,
astronomy,
travel
...
you
can
find
material
everywhere,
e.g.
in
books,
newspaper
articles,
YouTube,
podcasts,
apps,
films
etc.
Integrate
learning
German
into
your
everyday
life
and
make
it
a
regular
habit:
learn
something
new
every
day
and
repeat
what
you
have
already
learned.
Use
your
time
effectively
to
learn
German,
on
the
go
and
at
home:
Read
texts
or
listen
to
podcasts
on
the
train,
bus
or
subway.
Watch
videos
at
home,
also
use
your
time
in
the
kitchen
or
bathroom.
Listen
to
radio
plays
or
podcasts
while
tidying
up,
doing
the
dishes,
shopping,
jogging,
going
for
a
walk
etc.
