Dear Parent or Guardian,

This spring, your child will begin participating in a Classroom Gardening and Cooking Program
with Growing Chefs. In this program, students explore where food comes from, learn some basic
kitchen skills, and engage with their role in the local food system.

Over the course of the next three months, a volunteer team from Growing Chefs will visit your
child’s classroom to deliver these lessons. To begin, the chefs help the students plant a small
windowsill garden. As their plants grow, the chefs lead students through engaging food literacy
activities.

Students monitor their gardens, and through a series of games, activities, art projects, and
lessons focusing on plant growth, vegetables, sustainability, and food choices learn more about
where their food comes from and how they are a part of their local food system.
The health and safety of our participating students is of the utmost concern to us. To help us
ensure a safe environment, please email admin@growingchefs.ca to inform us of any allergies,
food sensitivities, or dietary restrictions your child might have.
Growing Chefs has implemented additional health and safety protocols and requirements for all
those who will be directly involved with the delivery of our programming to ensure COVID safety.
The leadership of Growing Chefs is committed to monitoring and reviewing the communicable
disease-related information issued by the Ministries, health authorities, and local school districts
and are updating our policy accordingly. If you have any questions or would like to review a copy
of our In-Person Programming COVID-19 Health and Safety Policy please email us at
admin@growingchefs.ca.
Check out our website—growingchefs.ca—for fun tips and recipes, and feel free to contact us
with questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns at 778-885-1308, or email at
admin@growingchefs.ca.
We also hope that you will help by encouraging your child to discuss the Growing Chefs program
at home, trying new foods with your child, and even planting a family garden.
Growing Chefs is a registered charity that is able to offer programming in your child’s school
because of donations from our community. To make a charitable donation, please visit our
website or send a cheque made out to “Growing Chefs Society” to our office address.

Sincerely,
Growing Chefs
