Interpretation of the provisions of the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) and other electrical
codes
Task No. 1
Instruction: Base on your understanding from the given SPLM # 1, answer the following
questions. Each question will have a maximum point of five (5).
Question 1. As an electrical system designer and estimator, discuss briefly how would you
address the dilemma to which you would consider more during designing electrical system,
the economical side or will you consider more on following the standard set by the PEC
even though it will cost more in terms of the materials to be used?
Answer 1. Being an Electrical System designer and estimator, you are responsible of your
decision especially in creating design and estimating materials needed in an establishment.
As for safety and health of everybody you must abide with the standard set by the PEC
disregarding the economical side because life is what it all that matters. Substandard
materials could lead to a further danger rather than following and using standard set of
materials though it is much expensive but its durability is more safe and secure. Considering
Economical side and the PEC Standard set I would probably consider the standard set by
the PEC even though it will cost much in terms of the materials to be used because in the
compliance with the PEC it makes installation of power safer and secure.
Question 2. Put yourself in the shoes of an electrical designer and estimator, how would
you assess the weight of responsibility entrusted to you? Explain briefly.
Question 3. As per your own observation, briefly discuss as to what extent do you think
does the Philippine Electrical Code standard is being followed in the country.
c In my own observation there are only few who follows the PEC Standard in the country
because some just want to save money and just go to substandard materials which is
cheaper and affordable. Large companies and establishments are somehow who follows it
unlike in some residential areas who just go with what is available and affordable for them
and it disregards the standards under the Philippine Electrical Code.
Question 4. As a future electrical practitioner, if given a chance to amend, add or remove
anything on the Philippine Electrical Code what would it be? Explain briefly.
Answers 4. As the Philippine Electrical Code was just recently updated in 2017 for me as a
future practitioner there were no chance to amend, add or remove anything on the
Philippine Electrical Code because it covers all in the electrical industry. It all needs is to be
implemented properly so that it will be effective as for the safety of everyone.

size, circuit breaker size (its AT and AF), conduit size base on the given amperage. Each item
is worth two (2) points each.
