Paloyo II BEED 4

A. Complete the table. Write (/) if the number on the left is divisible by the number on the top
and write (x) if not.

Numbers 2 3 4 5 6 8 9 10 11 16

1.) 234 / / x x / x / x x x

2.) 450 / / x / / x / / x x

3.) 675 / / x / x x / x x x

4.) 1680 / / / / / / x / x /

5.) 3740 / x / / x x x / / x

B. Determine if the first number is divisible by the second.Write D if it is and ND if otherwise.

1.) 5296; 3 - ND

2.) 1275: 9 - ND

3.) 856: 6 - ND

4.) 10052: 2 -D

5.) 976: 4 -D

C. Solve the following problems.

1. 156 pupils will go to a field trip and several teachers are assigned to a group of equal
number of pupils. The head teacher thought of grouping the pupils in groups of 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s.
7s, 8s and 9s. Are all groupings possible? Show your solution.

Solution: 156

= 3 * 52

= 4 * 39

= 5 * 31+1
= 6 * 26

= 7 * 22 + 2

= 8 * 19 + 4

= 9 * 17 + 3

156 is not completely divisible by 5,7,8 or 9.

So,groups of 3s,4s and 6s are possible. And groups of 5s,7s,8s and 9s are not possible.

2. Find all the possible values of A and B if the 6-digit number 2A16B6 is divisible by 4 and 9.

The sum of all digits must me divisible by 9. Since the sum of known digits

2+1+6+6=15=6+9,

6+9+A, hence 6+A must be divisible by 9.

Let us try all five possible values of A.

6+1=7 (no good),

6+3=9 (good),

6+5=11 (no )

The last two digits must form a number divisible by 4. There are five such numbers 16, 36, 56,
76, 96. So there are five possible values of B (1, 3, 5, 7, 9).

3. Find the smallest 4-digit number which is exactly divisible by all the numbers from 2 to 10.

Solutions:

4= 2 * 2

6= 2 * 3

8= 2*2*2

9= 3*3

10= 2*5
So, the least common multiple factor from 1 to 10 that there are factors of 2,two factirs of
3,one factor of 3 amd one factor of 5 and one factor of 7.

4. If a number is divisible by 3, 5 and 11, what is the next larger number divisible: by all these
numbers?

Solution:

Since, 3*5*11= 165

So, the next number is 165*2=330

The number divisible by all three would be 165 then 330 and so on.

5. Who am I? "I am a 2-digit number. I am divisible by 3 and by 4. My tens digit is twice my

ones digit."

“2 digit numbers”, so it can be from 10 to 99. “Divisible by 3 and 4”, so that leaves us with 12,
24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96. “My tens digit is twice my ones digit”, so the answer is 84.
