Regional Dances Definition

1. Salut sa Rurug Salut sa Rurug (Visayas) is a dance that


depicts the various uses of a bamboo
container, primarily in the retrieval of
water. Dance researcher Romulo P.
Bugna discovered the dance in
Agtambo, Passi, Iloilo. It was then
performed at the 2008 National Folk
Dance Workshop in Olongapo City in
May that year.
2. Binatbatan Binatbatan Dance(Luzon)- The
Festival's name "Binatbatan" got it's
name from the iluko term Batbatin, or
separating cotton balls from the seeds
of the local fruit tree "Kapas Sanglay
3. Dinnaklisan Dinnaklisan Dance (Luzon)- The annual
festivity of fishermen and residents in
this coastal village dubbed as
"Dinaklisan festival" (caught with fish)
is their way of remembering God's
blessings to them for having a bountiful
harvest and being safe at sea when
fishing
4. Pansak si Bangku Pansak Si Bangku (Mindanao)- This
dance was inspired by the point of the
rice cycle where the Upland Rice has
been harvested and is ready for milling
and threshing. A male dance performed
on top of a bench by a single boy or a
group of seven boys. The Yakans would
separate the rice grains from the stalks
with their feet and peel off the skin
with their hands, mimicking the
traditional method of milling and
threshing palay with bare feet.
Highland Muslims have their own dance
tradition.
5. Pangalay Pangalay is a traditional Tausug dance
that features sophisticated body
postures and gestures, as well as the
dancer's beautiful arm and hand
movement, which is emphasized by the
use of janggay or metal claws. The
kulintangan, gandang, agong, and
gabang are used to accompany the
dance. Pangalay, also known as the
fingernail dance, is typically done at
weddings and other celebratory
occasions.

Activity 3: Do It Right!
Objective: Performs a 3 to 5- minute dance with well-executed dance steps,
artistry proper music and costume.
What you need: Digital Cam or Phone Camera for video, do it your own (DIY)
costume
What to do: Among the pre- colonial and regional Philippine dances that were
mentioned, choose 1 dance to perform and submit it through a video
presentation. A video must be 3-5 minutes long. You can have your own “Do It
Your own” (DIY) costume for your individual presentation that will match to the
dance that you have chosen.
