Activity 1

Getting To Know Gases

Oejectives: Prove that gases have the following properties: mass, volume, temperature and pressure

Part A. Gases and it’s Mass

Tale 1. Data for the Mass of Gas inside the alloon

Trial Mass of the deflated Mass of the inflated Difference in Mass
alloon (g) alloon (g) (inflated-deflated) (g)
1 2g 2g 0g
2 3g 4g 1g
3 3g 4g 1g
Average 2.3g 3.3g 0.67g

Guide Questions:
1. Is the mass of the deflated alloon different from the mass of inflated alloon?
Yes ecause the deflated alloon contains only the mass of the alloon while the inflated alloon
contains the mass of the alloon and the air inside of it. The inflated alloon has more mass than
the deflated one.

2. Which is heavier, the deflated alloon or the inflated alloon? Why?

Inflated alloon is heavier ecause it has the weight of the alloon skin and the air inside. This
makes it heavier ecause aiar has mass. The pressure caused y stretching the alloon increases the
density of the air inside, so it adds to the weight

3. What can you infer in this activity?

Gases like solids and liquids also have mass
