THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This chapter will present the importance of this topic that the study is addressing and the
Background of the Study: Effects of Online Grammar Checkers and Plagiarism Detectors on
Senior High School Students' Research Ability. The rationale, conceptual framework, research
problem, hypothesis, scope, limitation, delimitation, and definition of terms are also provided to
fully comprehend the study's purpose.
Introduction

In today's society, the internet gives the right amount of information. As a result, anyone
can copy and reuse online information at any moment. Plagiarism is indeed the phrase used to
describe it. Its breadth is currently growing. Plagiarism frequently involves rewriting, copying,
and failing to supply evidence. Plagiarism is challenging to identify because people adapt content
instead of copying it directly. The pirated material is evaluated against a set of known collected
articles using a similarity measure once the original document has been retrieved. (Saini et al.,
2016, pp. 8-11). The users highlighted the platform's advantages as quick reliability assessment in
Concept Thinking, Language, Grammatical errors, Word Order, Style, and Comprehension
Improvement. Whereas other individuals noticed some flaws in the web application that could be
addressed in the future, the overall conclusion suggests a vast improvement in writing for both
language and quasi-fields of study. There is significant variability in confidence interval in written
form among students who are not English majors. It is suggested that the applications be used on
a regular basis. It is also implied that the system's recognition is improved in order to avoid
providing people with deliberate misinformation. (Ventayen, 2019).

According to the researchers, numerous learners are hesitant to utilize copyright

infringement checking programs because they assume their study is authentic and, therefore, have
nothing more to justify. At the point of the matter, everyone is capable of making common errors,
thus employing a plagiarism checker is not about determining the authenticity of the material.
Plagiarism detection software is a very appropriate method of checking dissertations or research
papers for any instances that could be a sign of plagiarism. Those who undertake their academic
tasks thoroughly and wish to avoid making mistakes can use the unique program to their advantage.
More specifically, the areas of inquiry propose that grammar inspection is important for text
precision and adequacy. A perfect grammar checker ensures that the document is free of all
typographical errors. Specific applications integrate it, but if not, users can acquire grammar
checkers separately. The appropriate morphemes and typical mistakes are preset in the proofreader
for statements. The grammar checker application alerts individuals when they use an incorrect
command of the language. Most of the time, an intriguing organization of all the wrong grammar
usage enables users to correct all grammatical errors.
The inquisitors have intended to investigate La Consolacion College Tanauan to evaluate
the student's researching skills. The researchers expect that by doing this study, they will be able
to determine whether Internet Grammar Checkers and Copyright Infringement Detectors have
influenced students' knowledge in this area. Those consequences will serve as the inquisitor's
central focus during the research. Knowing the most common forms of visible components of
grammar checkers and plagiarism detectors and their value will help researchers become more
aware of how to manage them. In today's world, it is critical to understand the implications and
repercussions of such application areas. The research aims to see how Grammar checkers and
Plagiarism Detector affect the students. The review, on the other hand, has both positive and
detrimental outcomes for them. The research is primarily focused on identifying these
consequences so that researchers can make people aware of them and, eventually, help address
them.

Background of the Study

According to Pappas (2014), Plagiarism checkers are beneficial in teaching because they
enable people to undertake search queries in a wide range of inputs without violating the law. They
are an essential learning resource. The online education field also helps learners optimize their
educational opportunities, as it prohibits people from stealing ideas, and they check for any
plagiarized components in work. Also, Thakur (2018) stated that the process of detecting and
correcting grammatical problems in literature is known as vocabulary knowledge checking. In the
realm of science and innovation, English is the most widely used language. As a result, quasi-
English-speaking people must read, write, and speak with proper English grammar. This
necessitates the use of automated grammar checkers. Many strategies have been presented and
executed thus far. However, in the last decade, fewer attempts have been made to review the
research.

Upon correlating ideas in web sources, plagiarism detection aids in the removal of poorly
rephrased terms. It was expounded as the unauthorized use of sections or the entire content without
proper attribution to the creator. Any unlawful reproduction of any text is essentially stolen,
making the original material lose its authenticity and credibility. As more than just a basis, the user
must employ online plagiarism-detection programs to avoid plagiarism. Grammar inspection, on
the other hand, is also crucial for content attention to detail. Nevertheless, when the grammar
checker says such a statement is perfectly all right, even when it is longer and more drivel. They
recognize grammatical structure somewhat less and put more effort into it, with an eye for
typographical errors, until sentence construction is adequately understood by an individual, which
allows for many mistakes across the situation, indeed.
The proponents chose the topic, whereas a grammar checker can assist the students in
learning new skills and practicing older models in order to help them meet and exceed
requirements in today's extremely competitive industry. The problem is that plagiarism has
become a very severe issue in recent years, and with enhanced detection technologies, many more
pupils are being charged than ever before, which is why the researchers chose this topic. Several
sites offer inexpensive plagiarism detection services for individuals who have duplicated and
reused information without citing sources. It is crucial to think that the results displayed on those
internet sites may not have been authentic. Hence, another problem of the topic as it is usual for
students or anybody else to make faults or errors in writing when learning a particular topic. When
a person acquires a language, they make a lot of mistakes, including grammatical errors. Correcting
grammatical mistakes is an essential aspect of one's life but reading and comprehension are two of
the essential foundational abilities’ students must learn.

The researchers also offered solutions to these problems. The first concern is creating a
research paper is obtaining literature and presenting evidence to strengthen the document. Relying
on already existing ideas and ideals and including relevant material in the paper are vital stages,
but it must be taken with caution to avoid plagiarism. To learn how to prevent plagiarism, an
individual must first grasp the various types of academic fraud that occur and how to rephrase the
material to prevent it further. Grammar, on the other hand, is a word's structure that helps sustain
coherence and clarity.

Furthermore, grammatical rules are challenging to follow, and familiarity with grammar
skills must be developed from an early age. As a result, before using a word, it is necessary to
double-check, create pointers to avoid writing too quickly, and use online tools to check for
problems.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Review of Related Literature

The chapter presents the foreign literatures, local literature, and related literature.

Narita (2012) said that the majority of academic communication and literacy experts
probably assert that pupils' grammatical and punctuation comprehension is at least inadequate.
However, mastering these fundamental abilities is necessary for high-quality writing and academic
achievement. Shamin (2012) discussed that piracy occurs whenever anyone portrays somebody
else's articles, journals, or thoughts as their property without consent. The three different types of
infringement are direct, mosaic, and internalized plagiarism. Direct plagiarism occurs when a text
is plagiarized directly. Mosaic plagiarism occurs when someone steals an original source's
thoughts and opinions completely, as well as a few words or phrases, and does not give credit to
the initial creator. Whenever somebody utilizes their original material without acknowledging it,
this is known as self-plagiarism. There are two sorts of plagiarism detection: those that track
plagiarized information in a browser computer system as well as those who search the rest of the
internet. (p.56).

According to Gi-Zen Liu (2013), the widespread use of information and communications
technologies has significantly altered the methods of publication and distribution and academic
and language instruction. However, as internet resources have become more accessible and
convenient, one of the most pressing challenges has arisen: Quasi-English-speaking people are
routinely convicted of literary plagiarism, whether purposefully or accidentally. There are
numerous composing techniques and copyright detectors accessible to assist with the problem. In
general, to help the users achieve their creative aspirations, the study established a studying and
plagiarism prevention instructional approach. The result advises those tutorial developers, content
creators, and topic teachers should encourage excellent interaction to enhance content relevance.

According to Michael Schraudner (2013), the title of the project is "The Online Teacher's
Assistant: Utilizing Automation Corrections Tools to Enhance Education and Instructional
Strategies." This focuses on the usage of many online software packages that help educators
highlight crucial areas for education by streamlining seeking and addressing student inaccuracies.
Students enter coursework into an application portal using their devices or PCs, then sent it as a
file. After that, the teacher can swiftly grade assignments both manually and using a range of
automatic grammar/language mechanisms. According to Schraudner (2014), Grammarly can
detect several frequent grammatical mistakes, particularly in the areas of grammatical errors and
sentence fragments. Kim (2014) discussed that Turnitin is a new technology that enables students
to verify mechanically produced evaluations from the platform and incorporate comments from
teachers into their composition. The grammar checkers listed above are intended to identify
language problems in students' work as well as provide them with automatic and rapid advice. One
of the tangible benefits of automated, quick feedback relieves teachers' grading obligations,
resulting in more excellent uniformity in learners' results.

According to the findings of Bruton and Childers (2016), if a student accidentally broke plagiarism
norms, academic staff did not penalize the students since the guidelines did not match the ones
contained in the syllabus about plagiarism penalties. Cavaleri & Dianati (2016) assert that writing
is an essential component of the academic support procedure. On the other hand, Academic
Language and Learning advisors may find it challenging to provide extensive information to
learners concerning their grammatical flaws due to the time limitation of the student's active
participation. As a supplement to criticism from an advisor, one alternative is to use online
grammar checker services. These technologies can help counselors save time and energy while
encouraging students to be more self-directed and increase their ego. This research aims to
introduce Grammarly, a prominent online language checker. The findings revealed that students
find Grammarly valuable and straightforward to use and that Grammarly has enhanced their
composition and comprehension of grammatical standards.

Syawal et al. (2017) explored that the digital age has recently been the foremost
information provider for individuals seeking depth of understanding. It is, nonetheless, critical that
it provides both benefits and downsides. The researcher's goal in this study was to confirm the
internet's drawbacks in its detrimental impact on learners' behavior. The results stated that the
majority of the students lacked depth, were internet addicts and were guilty of copyright. The
majority of students said that they would instead copy info from the website then paste it into their
assessment task without alteration. However, the online world has now become a better solution
to other educational media for them. On the contrary, many believed that going to the library would
not help them improve their academic difficulties. Some of the factors are an absence of thought,
attentiveness, and brainstorming. The role of the lecturer is advised, as is the usage of plagiarism
detector software, along with referencing and citation operating systems. (pp. 171-179).

Karyuatry (2018) stated that the study's goal was to see if using proper punctuation could
enhance the level of writing style among students. This study was conducted based on instructor
perceptions, which indicate that learners have grammatical and rhetorical device issues. The
lecturer stated in the conference that the students seemed utterly disinterested in composition.
Furthermore, the majority of pupils believe that writing is quite tricky. The researchers concluded
that proofreading could be an effective tool for reducing errors and improving the quality of student
work. Sibomana (2018) says that copyright infringement is already on the increase in the
educational field. As a result, advanced education systems are enacting solid disciplinary actions.
As they emphasize plagiarism recognition and the types of sanctions to deliver to students who
commit plagiarism, most of these approaches are reactive rather than proactive. In fact, these
solutions do not address the specific or significant causes of plagiarism in individuals' papers. This
gathered data may be one of the factors why such efforts haven't had much success in reducing
plagiarism. This study analyzes the notion and practices of plagiarism and suggests several
difficulties that need to be considered while developing solutions to tackle it using a digital
research approach. Meanwhile, research by Yulianti (2018), the study revealed that students had a
favorable attitude toward using innovation to develop and generate narrative texts. Students use
word processing software to view it that way, and Grammarly, a digital reader, assists them in the
creative process with the Grammarly software.

Iwan Perdana (2019) expounds those intellectuals and academic would undoubtedly
benefit from the availability of online grammatical analyzers as a consequence of technical
improvement. Many people use these tools to complete their work since they have more
comprehensive capabilities to assist them in improving their writing. As a result, this study aims
to confer an analysis of online plagiarism detectors. This paper explains online grammar checkers
in detail and discusses some reflections on their utility in writing. Grammarly also includes brief
reviews of a variety of online grammar-checking applications.

Check for Plag (2021) when an article with copied and pasted information is published on
the internet. There is a 100percentage possibility of becoming banned by Google and other
important search engines, putting your company's future in jeopardy. Individuals can also learn
about the integrates directly and the origin of the content by employing a plagiarism checker. On
the other hand, Rismayanti (2021) asserts that the study of perceived notions is highly advised in
order to become aware of the efficiency of the strategy utilized in language teaching. Other
researchers have undertaken various analyses of grammatical rules, but there has been a paucity
of evidence to suggest teacher perceptions of the way of teaching grammar. As a result, a structured
interview involving a case study was carried out. This study looked into how teachers, particularly
those who utilize deductive reasoning regularly, felt about using an inductive method in teaching
grammatical structures.
