CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, there will be a formation of maggots, flies, and fungi on rotten fruits being
placed in an open container being left for a couple of days. Due to the presence of air, the
mentioned organism above, and due to the days it was left open, the fruit will be rotten, will
start to smell unpleasant, and will eventually turn into dark yellow with a bit of brown.
Moreover, if the fruit is placed in a container covered with gauze, there will be fewer flies and
less presence of maggots, it will be lessened more on the jar covered with a tight cap.

Pre-Laboratory Question:
1. What is a controlled experiment?
A controlled experiment is an experiment where the independent variable is
systematically manipulated while its effects on the dependent variable are measured.

2. What is the manipulated variable in this experiment?

The manipulated variable in this experiment is the covers of the jar.

3. Why do you observe growths of fungi in all setups after several days of the experiment?
The fungi grow because of different factors, which include the fact that they grow due
to the nutrients they get from the food and the air, either stagnant or not. Furthermore, fungi
reproduce by spreading microscopic spores. These spores are often present in the air, and
many strains grow on food. As long as the food provides perfect living conditions for the spore
to survive and become a fungus. Since food is able to grow mold easily because it is often kept
in the perfect environment to foster mold growth.
