W W W .T H E V E N U S P R O J E C T. C O M
Jacque Fresco is a self-educated industrial designer, author, lecturer, futurist, inventor, social engineer, and creator of The Venus Project. Fresco has worked as designer and inventor in a wide range of fields, from biomedical innovations to integrated social systems. He believes his ideas would benefit the
greatest number of people, and thinks that the Great Depression influenced him greatly during his formative years.
The Venus Project was started in the mid-1 970s by Fresco and his partner, Roxanne Meadows. The film, Future by Design, produced in 2006, describes his life and work. This was further expanded upon in the film Zeitgeist Addendum by Peter Joseph in 2008. Fresco writes and lectures extensively on such
subjects as the holistic design of sustainable cities, energy efficiency, natural resource management, and advanced automation, focusing on the benefits these will bring to society.
The Venus Project presents a bold new direction for humanity that entails nothing less than the total redesign of our culture. Many people today are concerned about the serious problems that face modern society: unemployment, violent crime, replacement of humans by technology, over-population, and the
decline in the Earth's ecosystems.
As you will see, The Venus Project is dedicated to confronting these problems by actively engaging in the research, development, and application of workable solutions. Using innovative approaches to social awareness, educational incentives, and the best that science and technology can offer directly to the
social system, The Venus Project offers a comprehensive plan for social reclamation in which people, technology, and nature can coexist in a long-term sustainable state of dynamic equilibrium.
“If we really wish to put an end to our ongoing international and social problems, we must declare Earth and all of its resources the common heritage of all of the world’s people”... Jacque Fresco
Earth is abundant and has plentiful resources. Our practice of rationing resources through monetary control is no longer relevant and is counter-productive to our survival. Today we have highly advanced technologies, but our social and economic system has not kept pace with our technological capabilities.
We could easily create a world of abundance for all without servitude and debt, based on the carrying capacity of Earth’s resources. With an intelligent and humane application of science and technology, we can guide and shape our future together while still protecting the environment. We don’t have
enough money to accomplish these ends, but we do have more than enough resources. This is why The Venus Project advocates a Resource-Based Economy.
The term and meaning of a resource-based economy was originated by Jacque Fresco. A resource-based economy utilizes existing resources - rather than money - to provide an equitable distribution in the most humane and efficient manner. It is a system in which goods and services are available to everyone
without the use of money, credits, barter, or any other form of debt or servitude.
We have arrived at a time when new innovations in science and technology can easily provide abundance to all. It is no longer necessary to perpetuate the conscious withdrawal of efficiency through planned obsolescence, kept in place by an old and outworn profit system. If we are genuinely concerned about the
environment and others, and if we really want to end territorial disputes, war, crime, poverty, and hunger, then we must consciously reconsider the social processes that led us to a world where these problems are common. Like it or not, it is our social processes – political practices, belief systems, profit-based
economy, and our culture-driven behavioral norms – that lead to and support hunger, war, disease, and environmental damage.
The aim of this new social design is to encourage an incentive system no longer directed toward shallow and self-centered goals of wealth, property, and power. These new incentives would encourage people toward self-fulfillment and creativity, both materially and spiritually.
