Exercise

1. Manufacturing in technological is application of physical and chemical process to alter the shape
and the properties of raw material to product. In economic, a process that turns raw material into a
greater value of processed part.

2. Traditional design process have more process to develop compare to Concurrent engineering
process. Traditional design process have to test the prototype as each stage before release to
production. Traditional design process take more time to design the product. Concurrent
engineering process can be more cost saving compare to Traditional design process.

3.

Product life cycle

Product maturity
Rapid growth of the
product

Decline

Product start-up

i. Product start-up – A product that having market value on it that slow being design.
ii. Rapid growth - Mass production of the product and send to market.
iii. Product maturity - Receive feedback from consumer and improve.
iv. Decline - End of the product version or generation.

4.
i. Primary industries – A process turn raw material into processed product, such as metal sheet
industrial and Fish Company.
ii. Secondary industries – Convert processed product from primary industries to end product for
consumer. Phone and Canned tuna.
iii. Tertiary industries – Service center and feedback.

5.
i. Material properties – A material that can withstand daily use or long-lasting.
ii. Material cost – A material that cost friendly and still within the quality of product.
iii. Consumer application – Material selected must suitable for consumer requirement.

6.
i. Batch size – Process are different depending on batch size. If the batch size is too small amount,
that are not worth to select an expansive process.
ii. Manufacturing cost – Different process having different cost to carry on, its depending on the
product quality itself and its value.
iii. Level of automation – If high level of automation can’t be established on production when
running product, low cost process will be consider.

7. Process operation, the operation that turn a material to more complexity of part and increased
the used or the value of part.
Assembly operation, the operation that assembly 2 or more component to together to end up with a
product.

8. All three process are closely linked with each other. A material selection can affected how a
product is designed during design process and different material having different process selection.

9.
i. No follow up with consumer feedback.
ii. Zero innovative done.
iii. Bad material selected or Low quality
iv. Low value or low functionality
v. High purchase cost.

10. QC is important in manufacturing company, QC can control the quality of product before sending
out to the market, bad quality product will decrease profit.
