 The Golden Globes 2022 award ceremony took place on 9 Jan 2022.
 The Power Of The Dog won Best Film (Drama).
 Jane Campion won the Best Director for 'The Power Of The Dog'.
 Will Smith won the Best Film Actor (Drama) for 'King Richard'.
 Nicole Kidman won her 5th Golden Globe for Best Film Actress (Drama) for 'Being The
Ricardos'.
 Best Foreign Language Film was won by Drive My Car (Japan).
PM announces 26 December to be observed as ‘Veer Baal Diwas’
 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that 26 December will be observed as ‘Veer
Baal Diwas’.
 He announced this on the occasion of Gurupurab.
 It will mark the martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji.
 They both were the sons of the 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
 They attained martyrdom after they were executed by the Mughals.
Bharath Subramaniyam becomes India's 73rd chess GM
 Bharath Subramaniyam on 9 January 2022 became India's 73rd chess Grandmaster,
securing the third and final GM norm at an event in Italy.
 He scored 6.5 points from nine rounds along with four others to finish seventh overall in the
event held at Cattolica.
 To become a GM, a player has to secure three GM norms and cross the live rating of 2,500
Elo points.
Man gets genetically-modified pig heart in world-first transplant
 A US man has become the first person in the world to get a heart transplant from a
genetically-modified pig.
 David Bennett is doing well three days after the experimental seven-hour procedure in
Baltimore.
 Doctors at the University of Maryland Medical Center were granted a special dispensation
by the US medical regulator to carry out the procedure.
Indian Railways’ Railway Protection Force launches 'Mission Amanat'
 Indian Railways has come up with a new initiative 'Mission Amanat' to track lost belongings
of passengers.
 It has been launched by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
 Under this, the details of lost luggage and belongings along with photos will be posted on

the official website of the zonal railway.


 The information of the lost luggage will be uploaded on https://wr.indianrailways.gov.in/.
India at 83rd position in Henley Passport Index, improving by 7 places
 India’s passport ranks at 83rd position in the Henley Passport Index, climbing seven places
from 90th rank in 2021.
 However, in 2020, its rank stood at 84 while in 2016, India was ranked 85th along with Mali
and Uzbekistan.
 Japan and Singapore top the index.
 Germany and South Korea hold onto joint 2nd spot.
 Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, and Spain share 3rd place.
Kochi becomes first city with water metro project
 Kochi has become the first city with a water metro project as it has launched the first in a
series of battery-powered electric boats in the city.
 The new project by the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd envisages an integrated water transport system
with 15 identified routes.
 It will connect 10 islands along with a network of routes that span 76 km with a fleet of 78
ferries plying to 38 jetties.
Kevadia Railway Station renamed as Ekta Nagar Railway Station
 From now, Indian Railways’ Kevadiya station will be known as Ekta Nagar railway station.
 The Ministry of Railways has approved the renaming of the station situated near the Statue
of Unity.
 It falls under the Vadodara division.
 The station code of Ekta Nagar railway station will be EKNR and the numerical code of the
station will be 08224620.
Eminent scientist S Somanath appointed ISRO Chief for 3 years
 The Appointments Committee has approved the appointment of rocket scientist S
Somanath Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), to the post of Secretary,
Department of Space and Chairman, Space Commission (ISRO).
 He has been appointed for a combined tenure of three years from the date of joining the
post.
 He will succeed K Sivan who completes his extended tenure on 14 Jan'22.
Jacob's Creek appoints cricketer Mithali Raj as brand ambassador
 Australian wine brand, Jacob’s Creek has announced captain of the Indian women’s cricket
team and Padma Shri awardee Mithali Raj as its brand ambassador.
 She is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and is the only woman to score
7,000 ODI runs in cricket.

Jhulan Goswami roped in as ambassador of Legends League Cricket
 To promote women’s empowerment, Legends League Cricket (LLC) has appointed cricketer
Jhulan Goswami as an ambassador.
 LLC also announced an ‘All Women Match Official Team’ for the League that includes ICC
empanelled female umpires and match referees from all across the world.
 Shandre Frtiz from South Africa will be the match referee for the entire League.
Justice Ayesha Malik to be Pakistan’s first woman Supreme Court judge
 Pakistan will appoint the first woman judge of the Supreme Court.
 Lahore High Court judge Ayesha Malik will be elevated to this position.
 She will also be the senior-most serving judge and likely to become the Chief Justice of
Pakistan in January 2030.
 She will work as a Supreme Court judge until June 2031 before retiring at the age of 65.
18th Kachai Lemon Festival concludes in Manipur 2022
 The 18th Kachai Lemon Festival concluded in Manipur on 14 Jan'22.
 It was a 2-day event held in Kachai village in Ukhrul district.
 Kachai Lemon of Manipur has been accorded Geographical Indication (GI) registration tag.
 It is considered to be unique as it is a rich source of ascorbic acid.
 The theme of the festival was 'Organic Kachai Lemon for Safe Environment and Rural
Transformation'.

 Festivals Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Bihu, and Vishu are celebrated on 14 Jan 2022.
 The day is devoted to Sun God.
 Makar Sankranti marks the annual transit of the Sun from Dhanu (Sagittarius) to Makar
(Capricorn) in the Hindu month of Pausha.
 The festival is celebrated as Bihu in Assam, Pongal in Tamil Nadu, and Vishu in Kerala.
74th Indian Army Day: 15 January 2022
 India is celebrating 74th Army Day on Jan 15, 2022.
 It is celebrated in commemoration of Lt Gen KM Cariappa taking over as the first
Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
 He took over the position from Britain’s General Francis Bucher, in 1949, who was the last
British Commander-in-Chief of India.
 Before independence, the Indian Army, after being formed in 1895, was under British rule.
Ms. Vinisha Umashankar selected for 16th Queen’s Baton Relay
 Ms. Vinisha Umashankar, an environmentalist from Tamil Nadu, has been selected as a
Batonbearer for the ongoing 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay (12-15 January 2022) in India.
