Investigative Summary
Skeletal remains found on the beach in Allegan County. Additional details of the investigation are
on file with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department. At the time of this report, no further
information regarding the identity of the decedent is available from law enforcement.

Receipt of Remains
The remains are received in the supine position contained within a water rescue transport pouch.
A tag attached to the transport pouch bears the name, “Unidentified Body” and a seal securing
the zippers on the transport pouch bear the number “0068050”.

External Examination
The remains are received in the supine position contained within a water rescue transport pouch.
Portions of adherent skin and soft tissue appear to be free from traumatic injuries. No tattoos or
scars are identified.

Internal Examination
The right kidney, weighing 190 grams was recovered from the partially skeletonized remains. The
surface appears pale, granular, and pitted. The organ is bivalved and serially sectioned. The cortex
appears attenuated, and the pelvo-calyceal system appears normal. The remains were turned
over to the forensic anthropology department to generate a biological profile. Per the forensic
anthropology report, the following skeletal elements were recovered: cranial vault and
basicranium, cervical vertebrae 1 through 4, thoracic vertebrae 10 through 12, lumbar vertebrae
1 through 5, sacrum, right rib 12, left scapula, left humerus, right and left os coxae, right and left
femora, right and left patellae, right and left tibia, proximal end of the left fibula, right fibula
missing distal end, left and right calcanei, left and right tali, left and right cuboids, left and right
naviculars, left and right medial cuneiforms, left and right intermediate cuneiforms, left and right
lateral cuneiforms, left metatarsals 1 through 4 and right metatarsals 1 through 3, and two
sesamoid bones. No traumatic injuries were identified.

Other Procedures
1. Photographs for identification and documentation purposes are obtained.
2. The kidney is retained in formalin.
3. The femora are submitted to the Michigan State University DNA Laboratory for
identification purposes.
4. The skeletal remains are completely analyzed by forensic anthropologist Carolyn V. Isaac,
Ph.D.
5. Samples from the right tibia and twelfth thoracic vertebra are sent to UNTCHI for analysis.
