How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply:

Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations.

X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:The teacher will start by teaching the phases of matter. Once
the students have a clear understanding of each phase of matter the teacher will play her
podcast and show her video to the class. This will give the students an idea of what their final
projects should look like. The students will then decide if they want to work as a group or
independently to complete their final project. After this has been decided they will let the
teacher know if they wanna do a video or audio project.

Managing engagement:
By using digital tools and resources students will be taking a more active role in their
learning. The teacher will lecture the students about the phases of matter so they will have
the information needed to complete their projects. Students will work in groups or
independently to complete the audio or video project. Working in partners will allow the
students to have assistance from a peer before involving the teacher. The teacher will be
walking around to make sure the students stay on task and on the correct websites. The
teacher will set up conference time for the students to show what they have completed so
far to make sure they are on the correct track.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This activity provides entry points for all students. The
level of complexity within the project will vary based on the ability level of the students. All
students will be able to meet the rubric expectations regardless of learning style or overall
academic ability. This differentiation will increase student engagement.

Reflecting on enhanced learning: Students will demonstrate a deeper understanding of the

learning goals through analyzing the information, then creating a finished project. This will
require higher order thinking skills and a deeper level of learning than a simple teacher led
lecture or reading a textbook. Technology will provide a wider research platform as well as
more interactive ways for the students to share their learning with the class.
