youth leaders have the

the emotion.

Aim of activity The aim of this activity is to invite youth leaders to identify, when they
are feeling low, what they tend to do in order to feel better. The
output of this activity is to create a list of activities that youth leaders
can rely on when they are feeling low. As this ‘toolkit’ can be
personalised, youth leaders can share this concept with their peers.
Examples can include; playing sports, listening to music or playing
video games.
Materials Required To complete this activity, the following resources will be required;
for Activity
 Pens and markers for notetaking;
 Sheets of paper for participants to create their ‘Toolkit’;
 Colourful pens and markers for youth leaders to design their
Toolkit
 Flipchart for recording responses.

Step-by-step The facilitator will start the activity as a group activity in order to allow
instructions for brainstorming to occur but as the activity continues, it will become
individualised.

The following steps should be followed to complete this task:

 Step 1: Working together in groups of 3-4, youth leaders will

reflect on periods of when they have felt low.
 Step 2: Youth leaders will identify what they typically resort to
during these periods of negative mental health.
 Step 3: Some of the answers will be recorded on the flipchart

so that youth leaders can refer to this step later.

 Step 4: Youth leaders will be encouraged to work together to
create a sample toolkit for one of the members in the group.
 Step 5: A sample Toolkit will be elicited from the youth leaders.
 Step 6: For the remainder of the activity, the facilitator will
encourage youth leaders to work alone to create their own
individual Toolkit.
 Step 7: The facilitator will be present in the room should youth
leaders require support.
 Step 8: Youth leaders will present their personalised toolbox to
the group.
