Rule Number 3

I. PRE-LISTENING: Discuss the following questions with a classmate.

● How did you learn you mother ● Do you know Spanish grammar?

LISTENING FOR GENERAL INFORMATION: Listen to A. J. Hoge, Director of Effortless English, speak about his Rule 3 on
learning English. What is rule number 3?

II. LISTENING FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION: answer the following questions or complete the
statements with information from the passage.

1. What are the advantages of Rule 3? List them down.


 Learn new vocabulary
 Learn grammar
 Improvement in the speaking ability
 Better understanding of the listening
2. What is the problem with learning English in school?
● The problem is that we learn mostly with our eyes with textbooks we learn how to think and write
about English, instead of learning with our ears.
3. Most schools focus on text books and in teaching how to write English.
4. In school, people learn to how to write and think about English. We learn all the grammar rules.

5. According to the speaker, we must listen to easy English. We should understand 95% or more without a
dictionary.

6. He suggests listening to children's programs, children´s or for teenager’s audiobooks. Or harder English
listening like an audio article or a speech or a lesson (with the text).
